  • Overhype. His type of story telling was not catered for Voyager. Nice try, but glad to see him go

I'm surprise Roslyn spaced a fully clothed Cylon. Resources are at a premium as Sheridan told Ivanova when she forgot to include stripping Dan Randall naked in that threat towards his good behavior.

It's worth pointing out here that the Galactica, and the rest of the fleet are hardly in shambles all the time either.

I'm going to try to say this without spoilers: There was recently a really big battle and Galactica was still showing the damage the last time I watched. Hey, it may not be perfect but at least it's an effort at some continuity which I have to appreciate. :)

Can I assume that you're referring to something that happened in S4? I've only seen the first three years on DVD, and won't see the last year til it comes to DVD.

You're aware that there's a 6 month (and maybe plus) break until they begin airing the second half of season 4?

That's why I liked the Gift. They were still battle damaged form Borg Space with Borg tech hanging off everything like tumors.

If you've seen S3, you've seen Galactica take on damage that's clearly visible ever since.

I'm not saying since I don't want to ruin things for you. :)

After thinking about this Ron Moore thing and watching BSG, I have lost a little respect for him as a person and a little bit as a writer. I've read the interview, and I just really didn't like the way he handled the Voyager situation. Whether he chose to go to voyager or asked, the simple fact was he was allowed to join the writing team of that series. I know there were issues about how it was run from not just Moore but from many of the crew but to go into an interview and blast the guy (Who was basically your Boss) who allowed you to come and write an episode or two seemed really unprofessional.

Now we get all these what Voyager should have been with BSG and I'm getting tired of it. Was there a lot of things Voyager could have improved with, yeah? I don't consider it the best series because there were a lot of flaws, but I did find it enjoyable. However, these comparisons with BSG are unfounded and I'd even argue that BSG has lost it's way on survival too. I mean they haven't had a supplies or really survival episode in what, 2 or 2.5 seasons? I think the last one was Hand of God and it was a great episode. Since we've gotten worries about food and stuff like that, but it's more been about one ship, one military, and love triangles. BSG itself could do a much better job addressing needs of the fleet that doesn't include forming unions or stuff like that.

I like Voyager, and I like BSG. Ron Moore is not overhyped, but he isn't god either. He's just a good writer who I think is succuming to his own hype which is why he hasn't been great for the last few BSG seasons.

Umm... Algae on your boot!

So they've been using Algae for everything?
No, but the show would not be fun if we saw them doing recon missions to find supplies every ep.

I can live with the fact that there are science missions and search ops that take place that we don't see on tv.

Funny you say that, since that's part of the basis in comparison between BSG and Voyager, at least according to many people on this board.

A huge point of comparison is that BSG deals with some of these issues on screen... Fuel, Water, Food... all have been addressed on screen... some more than once!

Voyager never dealt with this beyond discussing replicator rations from time to time. The ship was never damaged... and you never saw any real consequences from one week to another. Seriously, how many times did one of the officers say "Hull breach on Deck ..." and there was never any discussion about evacuating a deck for extended periods of time... The bridge was blown up many times... I don't recall them ever fixing it. SOME searching for resources (a la the 1st season ep when they got Leyola Root) would have been nice throughout the series... Or a simple nod to "Vorik cant do this repair because he is working on rebuilding shuttle 2 for the enxt week." BSG has had the Chief mention that he can't use metal for something because it's ticketed for Viper Repair. (won't say more for spoilers)

I agree with Moore's criticisms of what was wrong with Voyager. However, I don't think that Moore specifically was needed to fix those problems. They were pretty common sense things that any reasonable person could have identified and fixed if they had the will and power to do so.

Had Moore turned Voyager into nuBSG then that would just be swapping one set of problems for another.

Voyager would have been way better if they fixed the problems Moore identified, whilst at the same time not doing any of the things on Voyager that nuBSG has done.

TheMasterofOrion's post #41 here is a spot-on analysis of what I mean:

Moore's complaints are lousy, he's basically saying that we should just ignore everything about Trek from the very beginning and just assume they have no desire to be out in space, every last crew-member hates and wants to murder everyone else on the ship, and they have no tech to deal with any kind of problem.

Well, supposedly all the Maquis wanted to be were farmers. I still think that someone should have abandoned Voyager in the 37s.
