Ron Moore open to returning to writing Star Trek...

The guy created Battlestar Galatica. He understands modern tv. He also understands Trek. He would be a perfect fit. Jason
NuBSG started 16 years ago and ended 10 years ago. His execution of NuBSG didn't make it a ratings hit for SyFy for long, and they kept it going because a few high profile critics liked the show and TPTB at SyFy thought that would give the channel some Cred in the cable wars back then.

Since then he's done the Outlander series for showtime - and I guess it has a niche following (not my cup of tea).

As for "knowing modern TV..." - hardly. Hell, one of the biggest issues with his execution of nuBSG was the added intro line of "and they have a plan..." just because it sounded cool; but when it came to the execution of the series RDM really DIDN'T have a plan and that became so obvious to anyone watching; he finally admitted what I've related above and then the writers tried to retcon 'The Plan' in. :rommie:

As for the "Trek RDM knows..." - that version of Trek is dead and gone; and I rather not see it make a resurgence. The B&B era is thankfully dead, and it should remain so. (IMO).

This is the big problem.
That's making the assumption that Moore is a one trick pony, he's not.

To be honest, completely eliminating all future references of the Klingons from Star Trek would suit me just fine.
this.

I'd love a two line interchange

Seven: "jean Luc, If we're not careful, humans could become extinct just like the Klingons did 10 years ago in that thing we're not going to mention further."

Picard, "Yes, mixed feelings for all of us. Anyway, I wanted to talk to you about.."

IMHO, the best Moore episodes across all of Trek - looking only where he had sole credit, which eliminates a lot:

TNG:
Family
Relics
Tapestry
The Pegasus

DS9:
The Die is Cast
Soldiers of the Empire
Once More Unto the Breach

I'd recommend all of these to anyone, but "Tapestry" in particular. I appreciate it even more as time passes. Especially now at 40 where I'm beginning to see how all the messed up things that happened in my 20s and 30s needed to happen to get me where I am.

It would be awesome to see him come back to Trek today. But he already has a "full plate" between running Outlander and now The AppleTV+ show For all Mankind.

What do you have against Behr?
I think it was detailed in the TNG vs. DS9 thread. He basically thinks the Roddenberrian progressiveness and optimism is silly. The worst and most damaging expression of this is him creating Section 31. That disgraceful blight still continues to rot Star Trek.

It is silly. It is a nice dream and all but they were lucky they found ways around it on TNG but it something you can't duplicate. While you can still have positve feeling shows you can't ask writers to forever work with the amount of creative roadblocks Berman was demanding. Jason

Then they can works on shows that are not Star Trek.

Even Star Trek shows have to be different from each other. The have to have their own voice. DS9 was a little darker but it was hardly bleak. It actually has the best sense of humor of them on because you confict to create it. Jason

Certain core concepts and principles should be respected and Behr absolutely didn't.

Moore is a good writer but I don't want to see another serialized war series. Frak no.

Both Moore and Ira Steven Behr did better work when they were under Piller and Berman's leash IMO.

DS9 had optimism, it was just tempered similar to how it was in TOS. By that standard, TNG was and remains the outlier. I won't beat this dead horse over and over. we've had this discussion and I know we wont' see eye to eye, which is fine.

I agree and I think that DS9 was great because Berman focused on Voyager and left DS9 alone
