Romulans!

I could be seeing it wrong, but, isn't it, in fact, quite symmetrical? A tall ring in the back, and a raised "snake head" in the front?
- I believe you're tight - I stand corrected. I couldn't see that the "snake head" was separate during my first viewing. Ah, well, I still like it even though it appears symmetrical now ;)

Looks like a palace in space, which I like :)
Aye thanks. This ship is supposed to serve as a Sector or System command ship, also doubling as a mobile outpost if need be.

Tall and asymmetrical - an imposing ship just right for ferrying the praetor around. Are those intersecting triangle windows at the bottom a viewing gallery (or bridge)?
lol, this one's not asymmetrical, I think you realized it now though...lol I included the rough sketch of the side view below. And you are absolutely correct that that is an observation gallery on the bottom. It would be used to entertain guests, or to observe a colony. And Thanks!

You hit it on the nose bro!, nicely done :) The overall shape is sorta like a swan-type feel.

Probably a hell to park.. but as always, a very interesting design, your colourscheme is really nice with these Romulans btw.
Thank you mate! I believe you may have this part next to it...lol

The Jerok-class all the way for me, please (despite the lovely asymmetrical K'rzak)! I've got a sketch of a small Betazoid ship with a very similar shape to the Jerok (just without the nacelles) - I'll have to root that out.

If you don't mind me asking, once inspiration has struck, how long does it take you to produce these inked designs, @Atolm? And do you just freehand them from an image in your head, or do you make a simple computer model first so you can see what they look like from different angles?

Thanks! As for your queries: I always have ideas...like always, that's why I believe that I am so prolific... I try to see that every idea I have gets explored to the fullest in some fashion.
As for time...When I start a drawing it takes me about 1-2 hrs to go from pencil sketch to ink to colour ink. So like my Klingon starships in the other older thread, each one of those ships took me roughly an hour from start to finish. These guys have more to them, especially adding the computer enhancements (the windows, glow effects, nebula, stars, etc...), so those are like the 2hr mark. Everything is from my head. I have never drawn from a 3d CGI model. If I make a 3d CGI model, then that is the medium that I am going to present it in. All of these ships have had no straight edges or rulers for aid, as the Rom ships are pretty organic, so it allows me much more freedom with my lines.

Hope that answers your questions, if not just let me know :)

I like the way he plays with different configurations of ship. The warbird's defining characteristic for me isn't even the bird motif but that out-there triple-hull set-up. Just really blows your mind for what could otherwise be a basic ship design. Remember that these are supposed to be aliens, not just space-Romans. I so much more like some of these ships than some of the ones we saw for the Romulans in the canon.

Asymmetrical! You missed that didn't you? ;) in any case, awesome job as usual. :mallory:
I always a one or two up my sleeve :)
Thanks Bro.

What would your take on Narada be, Atolm?
to that I am unsure, as I love the Narada as is, but I am also not sure what the idea of the ship was supposed to represent. In movie, she is relegated as a mining vessel or similar, but what happened? is that really a Romulan mining ship? I mean in the supporting comics I saw a design of the Narada before she was Borg "infused"...but really? Seriously? the Narada is supposed to be a romulan mining ship that was merged with Borg technology? Wouldn't the Borg tech just take over? And what was up with all the water on the ship? Pools and Puddles of it.
So in order for me to design the Narada, I would need it's purposes, as am I designing a warship, or a mining vessel. Or even a mining vessel converted into a warship (ala Q-ship)...but I'd most likely design her w/o the "borg influence".

I love every single design here!
Thank you!

Man, I missed a few posts here! Awesome stuff as always Atolm!
Thank you much :)

Very true words there, but the bird is always part of it... at least for me :) Thanks!

whoa this is beautiful! Glad to see you're still going strong Atolm!
Thanks! I've been a tad busy as of late, but I should be posting some stuff soon :)

I haven't posted for a while, but I see all your stuff is still good. I especially like that Tyr'Nordirex class ship.
Thanks Mate!
