Romulans to be bald in Trek XI, and another major spoiler

I know you keep mentioning this because it's what you remember... and there's nothing wrong with that.

But my memories are in error?
Didn't say that. Your memories are your memories. They reflect what you experienced. You weren't "grounded" in all this at the time... so everything you remember from that period is all completely "first person."

I'd been following this stuff for a lot longer (not bragging... just stating a fact). I'd been following the conversations ABOUT this stuff for a long time before then... and I was more "wired in" to all this than you (as someone coming in "new") would have been.

It's sort of like the "new fans" you've mentioned who will come from this movie. (We don't disagree that there will be new ones, only how many "fans" versus how many "oh, well, yeah, that was a cool movie... glad I saw it... what's showing NEXT weekend?" crowd.) But those people won't be as "wired in" to what's going on now, and what's come before, as YOU will be. They'll be looking at the "new situation" from a very narrow perspective... which is perfectly normal and to be expected.

I'm so glad that after all of the waiting, we'll be able to see a Star Trek story that involves time travel. It's fresh & unique ideas like this that help keep the Star Trek franchise exciting.

Not completely at all.

Exactly. Then I bought, read and reread the 29 previous issues of "Starlog" I'd missed and got hold of the "Best of Trek" volumes, Lincoln Enterprises newsletters, and local fanzines and newsletters - and started leading a club full of people who had the old TOS perspective, and meeting other newbies who, like me, had to catch up.

Star Trek tried to be fresh and exciting with DS9 and Voyager but those two, along with Enterprise, killed the entire franchise.

I personally thought DS9 was fresh and exciting. As far as time travel stories go, though, I really wish the powers that be would just get it over with and give us a series, Star Trek: Temporal Investigations and just make it all about time travel, since it seems time travel is really what they prefer to write about when it comes to Star Trek.

I'm gonna watch the movie and I'll probably enjoy it, but this time travel stuff is a dead horse with almost nothing recognizable of it's bloody corpse remaining.

Time travel has been part of Trek from the beginning. From the very beginning (Naked Time, anyone?) If used well it can be a great plot device.

What else would do away with?

Klingons?

Ship battles?

Lets take the ship battles out of trek. They've been done to death too...

Didn't 'Balance of Terror' establish that humans did NOT know what Romulans looked like during the Earth-Romulan wars?

Is this movie going to be a complete re-write of Trek?

Easily explained. We already know time travel is involved. Kirk and company will know what the Romulans look like in the alternate time line before Spock saves the day and returns everything to the correct time line, in which Kirk and company won't know what the Romulans look like until BOT.
