Romulans or Klingons? (Spoilers!)

Who would you have preferred to see in Star Trek XI? Who did you think it was going to be? Which of the villainous species would do a better job (of being the villains)? Which is the better known of the two?

Of course we now know which one is in the movie, but perhaps this will change. In Star Trek III Romulans where going to make an appearance, but this was changed to Klingons because it was felt they where better known by the fans and general public. Could this happen again?

I must admit I always expected the Klingons to feature so I am suprised its actually the Romulans. Do you think its the right decision?

I'd prefer Romulans but if it's a remake it doesn't really matter one or the other to me.

Romulans to answer the question at hand. I hope they'll be handled better then they were through all of TNG run - infact I expect it given one of the writers is familiar with "Spock's World" so he might have a whole different understanding who and what the Romulans & Vulcans are.

MattJC of what episode is this a movie a "remake" of or what previous film?

There's no doubt this is a whole new "vision" of Trek but I'm confident by the end of two hours we're gonna still be working in the "same universe" perhaps restarted a bit but it will be the same universe all 79 eps of Tos ventured in. Orci seems to indicate this when asked "why not do it the Batman Begins way?" over at Trekmovie.com

Remake, reboot, "Alternate Timeline". It's all the same to me.
The Romulan part of the AICN story seems to be very likely true, and I am not holding out hope for the "alternate timeline" bit to be false.

Romulans as bad guys? Again?

All it would take would be Sela and I'd be finished before the movie started. *sigh*

If they need a cardboard bad race, can't they use the stupid, loutish Klingons?

*grump*

Klingons are overdone. Romulans definitely need (good) development. So Rommies it is!

If they need a cardboard bad race, can't they use the stupid, loutish Klingons?

It's about time they became more than cardboard - and that will only happen with some screen time and competent writers.

Or Klingomulans. :D

Kringulans. The best of both races, the pointy ears, ridged heads, Moe Howard bowl cut in the front and mall rat mullet in the back.

Not to be confused with the Sulibolians or Ferengorni.

neither. I've had it up to here with Klingons, and they've botched the Romulans (remember, the aliens identical to Vulcans, but with ginormous head appliances?)

How about the Andorians (I've never seen "Enterprise," tho)

Or the Gorn?

The Andorians are really cool, but they are with the Federation. I for one, really wanna see Romulans done well in a Star Trek movie :)

The other problem, for the general public, was that the enemy would have looked exactly like Sarek, Saavik, Young Spock and T'Lar, with a need for the backstory of the sundered race to be outlined.
