Ok in 8 years from Nemesis to the reboot the Romulans lose the forhead ridges (Remember the hue and cry with the Klingons from TOS no ridges to TMP and TNG with ridges)
They lose the distinct Vulcan hairstyles and hair colour (now again im talking whats shown/explained on film) and now all bald with facial markings (bar the brief image of Neros wife who has long blonde hair)
Word of God said so... I think. Google it.Not in the movie
In that scene:look Vulcans
The V-ridge: It was stupid, unnecessary, and a little insulting to the audience to begin with. The Romulans were originally conceived as an offshoot of the Vulcan civilization. Do the Vulcans have a V-ridge? No. Only reason it was added was because the paramount suits thought the audience needed a way to distinguish Vulcans from Romulans at a glance because they were too stupid to follow the dialogue. If they can add it for no good reason, they can remove it for no good reason.
Bald & tatoos: If the Romulans can figure out things like warp drive, they can probably figure out razors and needles. Just because Star Trek has always depicted all members of a species as clones of each other before doesn't mean they're obligated to keep doing it. Some Romulans, like some humans, shave their heads. Some Romulans, like some humans, have tatoos. Some Romulans, like some humans, have facial hair. No explanation is necessary.
The ship's appearance: If the Romulans are smart enough to figure out warp drive, they're probably smart enough to know that monopoly's are bad. They probably have more than one shipbuilder. Again, no explanation is necessary.

Nice tap dance. Thing is he's correct. Romulans didnt have the ridge in TOS or the TOS movies. Spock could move freely through Romulan society without the ridge. No I guess when after a pure subjective statement like yours there is no explanation needed its your way or no way great contribution
some Romulans can read a thread and contribute, like some humans Some Romulans can just types absolutes regardless of anyone else or accept whats beem established like some humans
Your post is like your subjective rant on the V-Ridge

I wrote like... a long post... at the top of the page explaining my theory on all of this, bro.

Why would JJ edit a scene with a narration that would would contradict what's on screen?
tl;dr - too long didn't read
Oh right -you post only after reading what you want because it was too long ok thanks for the heads up
Ok Your theory on the Romulans changing appearance in the 8 years from nemeisis to the reboot is that we have never seen miners before and therefore they can look like anything?
I'm now getting told as result of the homeworld being destroyed-these miners enter into surgery to their foreheads and change all that has been romulan since TNG out of grief? OR is it because The romulans as a an alien race want to emulate all the diverse varities of humans and clearly ensure from a visual story telling point of view we the audience can now just have verbal confirmation they are romulans?
Please I want to clarify because im either getting suggested alternatives/reasons which I expect in a discussion thread or absolutes shoved at me.
The still you captured above had your statement "look no angry Romulans from the future -to which I replied sarcastically "look Vulcans"
Sorry if you misread that as me challenging what spock was acturally saying in the audio
I would never challenge what was said on screen just to clarify.
See to me those gentleman might as well be vulcans not the offshoots of vulcans which became romulans as established in TNG that evolved somewhere else over 2000 years.
My point is 2000 years on another world can understand a change here or there.
Funny they kept that look of theirs for a long time millenia even. Than in the last 8 some of them changed quite alot
Now resonable posters have offered like yourself a reason why this is so such as they are hybrids part romulan/part other race or from a different Romulan colony world that we have not seen on the screen
And you know what a simple bit of scripting and tighter writing and we would have had a nice development on a established race-something telling us hey the Romulan Star Empire is a big and diverse place cool
In the much torn apart movie st10 nemesis they managed to write in an entire sub race to the Romulans and even explain in universe why we have not seen them-imagine that -amazing what some decent writing can do
I hope this was not too long to read if i could supply audio/visual i would![]()

Why would a mining ship look like a warship?
Spock could move freely through Romulan Society?! What the hell was Unification parts 1 and 2 about? Did not Starfleet intelligence indicate Spock had disappered all so he could escape detection by the Romulan Government?
So because the V ridge is gone Spock is accepted with all his views by the Ruling Romulan Govenment that wanted to invade Vulcan and annex it by force?
Explanation is welcome and encouraged
Dude, though, the Romulans in TNG are not "the" status quo on Romulans. Imagine the fans of Star Trek that were familiar with the Romulans of 79 episodes and 6 movies. Suddenly after 25 years they get morphed into this v-ridge boxy looking race of people and culture?
Romulans were always supposed to be the anti-thesis of Vulcans. They were their exact twins, sharing the same ancestry, etc. Vulcans embraced logic, Romulans embraced emotion. It was what made the Romulans compelling as it gave some depth to the Vulcan people.
Just because someone decided to return to the TOS roots of the Romulan look doesn't mean that the movie is destroying all that is known about Romulans. There's only a 80 year jump between TOS and TNG and a 120 something odd year jump from TOS to the events in XI so is that "logical" to say that such a change in appearance is normal?
You're trying to make big of something as little as a costuming change. It's a science fiction show. It's fake, these people are not real... etc etc etc blah blah blah. Just chill bro, the essence of the Romulans are not lost because a few decided to shave their heads and get tattoos. They're still honorable warriors who will rather die than accept aid from the enemy.

Starfleet Intelligence stated that Spock was spotted on Romulus in what was assumed to be an unauthorized visit after going missing for 3 weeks. He was living on Romulus among the Romulans to try and unify the them with the Vulcans as well as teach them the beliefs of Surak or something like that.
Yes correct but there is a reason he had to go underground as the roumlan government wanted him for spreading what they saw as subversive beliefs among the citizens- ridge or no ridge he could not walk openly around the romulan capital.
If there wasn't a satisfactory explanation for the different Romulan appearances, why don't you make up one yourself that you are happy with?
I mean, isn't imagination part of science fiction? Does EVERYTHING need to be explained?
Yes correct but there is a reason he had to go underground as the roumlan government wanted him for spreading what they saw as subversive beliefs among the citizens- ridge or no ridge he could not walk openly around the romulan capital.
That isn't the point we're trying to make. It doesn't matter what the Romulan government may or may have wanted him for - if that was the case (I don't remember him specifically being the target) - the debate is that the Romulan people did not find him "strange" or out of the ordinary. He would not have lasted that long incognito amongst the Romulan people if they found issue with him without a ridge.
Because he lasted that long and still managed to stay on Romulus afterwards for all those years it is to be assumed that there are Romulans with and without that hideous ridge.

Why would a mining ship look like a warship?
Right no ridges in TOS or the Classic movies 5 and 6
They had those ridges then in TNG, DS9, Voyager and Enterprise
all he is correct in is highlighting the realworld differances of the 1960's era tos and the 1990s era of tng and the fact the movies did follow through with the makeup until Nemesis
There is no "right" or "wrong". There are just reasons why they used the make up they did. Saying something is "stupid" is hardly the way to engender discussion or conversation.I mean I tell you something is stupid even if there is a reason for it and it makes it right?
No, why would you think that?Because I type no explanation is necessary it ends any discussion?
Do I? How so?You got some fancy footwork going on there yourself![]()
Please dont go all absolute and tell me what TV series is accepted and whats not-it kills discussions
