Actually, we have no proof either was there. The Klingon flagship at the time was the Negh'var, which we didn't see in WYLB. I know there is a reference in the episode to the Romulan flagship, but that could just be flagship in the traditional military sense, IE the ship that the Romulan flag officer was aboard. In that sense, the Rotarran would have been the Klingon flagship at the battle, and whatever ship Admiral Ross was aboard would have been Starfleet's.

It's worth noting that the Enterprise was never mentioned during the Dominion War while DS9 was on air. However, the Enterprise got 2 references in VOY season 6. In the episodes "Pathfinder" and "Life Line". Which aired several months to a full year after DS9 wrapped and a year and a half after INS hit theaters. In the season 5 episode "In Purgatory's Shadow", Sisko mentions a recent Borg attack. The episode airing after First Contact hit at the box office.

Why TPTB choice to tap dance around where the Enterprise and her crew were during the biggest event to hit the Star Trek universe, I have no idea. We know Berman and Piller thought about making INS a Dominion movie, but decided against it. The Son'a stayed on as bad guys however.

    What was in their heads?

The Son’a were mentioned in DS9 I recall. Damar mentions them.

That was in season 7. When INS was on home video.

Perhaps the same excuse that was why the Discoprise sat out the Klingon war?

"Go explore, but if we lose in the meantime it's up to you to save us."

That does seem sensible. The more ships are sent 'east' to fight tye war, the more effective the fewer ones left 'west' have to be.

We need a fully fleshed out battle of Wolf 359. I forgot about this short clip.

As we also saw in the Dominion War, century old ships like the Mirandas and Excelsiors are completely outclassed. With the bulk of fleets in the Dominion War being made of these old ships. It's no wonder the Feddies took heavy losses from season 5 (against the Klingons) to season 7 (against the Dominion).

Times like this, you would be thankful to be in a heavy cruiser like the Galaxy or Sovereign classes. Or in a tank like the Defiant and Prometheus. Hell, all the punishment we saw Voyager take and keep on flying. Definitely preferable to being on an something built in Kirk's day.
