Rogue One (2016) [SW Anthology Series)

If one wants to infiltrate an Imperial base without looking suspicious, you will need a more or less Human crew, as the majority of Imperials you will have to impersonate are Humans.

I would point out that the Empire being anti-Alien is an EU thing which seems to ignore again that the Rebellion only had Chewie as an alien member until ROTJ.

Ugh, once again, a large cast with a whole one woman in it. Get your shit together already Star Wars.
She's a lead, for crying out loud. So is Ray in The Force Awakens. Well, basically.

She's a lead, for crying out loud.
Better than nothing, but still far from equality.

Yes exactly. Making a female a lead or even the lead is a good thing sure. It does nothing to cure the fact that Star Wars is consistently noticeably short on female characters.
There's also Leia, Phasma, and Maz Kanata. I'm not as sure about Kanata since they're a CGI alien, but they are at least played by a woman. We don't know for sure how big of a role they are playing, but based of off how much we see her in the trailers and photos, Phasma seems to be a pretty big player. A lot of the photos we've seen of Kylo Ren also have Phasma in them.

Wasn't there a rumour going around that the movie was going to feature a high-ranking female Imperial officer who has already been introduced in one of the new Disney licensed novels? Okay, that's only two, and I'm sure there will be more male characters not featured in that photo. But, both the lead protagonist and antagonist being female is still progress for Star Wars, anyway.

If we're including the tv shows then there's also Satine, Asajj, Hera, Sabine, and Ahsoka.

It's still heavily skewed towards male overall, but let's not pretend that Leia is the only prominent female character in the franchise.

W00t!

Now I'm pretty sure Biggs Darklighter is in Rogue One!

^Wouldn't that contradict the deleted scene from ANH that has Bigg telling Luke he and a bunch of others plan of jumping ship and joining the rebellion the next time their ship jumps to an inner system? Something about a friend of a friend on Bestine who might make a connection to the Alliance IIRC.

All this would have had to have happened in the, what? Three or four days that passes from when the droids make landfall in the escape pod and they all show up at Yavin with Biggs already there? All of which I might add would have to have happened *after* the events of 'Rogue One' and the theft of the plans.

Granted it's a deleted scene that wasn't restored in any of the various re-edits, so technically they can do what they want with the character, but still...

This is a really weird comment, because no one was saying that Leia was the only prominent female character in the franchise. The issue is that it's heavily skewed towards males, which you acknowledge. It's like you're saying, the point you're making is right, but it's less valid because this other point, which you didn't actually make, is wrong.

You said it yourself, it's a deleted scene and even after what, three revisions, it's never been reinserted in the movie. Therefore it's not canon.

The "but still" part is completely irrelevant here. Deleted scenes aren't canon. Period.

Oh I know, like I said they can do whatever they want, but I guess I've had such a fixed impression of Biggs for so long this just seems out of character.

He always seemed to me like he was in a little over his head and not half the pilot that Luke and Wedge were.

Aside from that it seems a little strange for Luke to repeatedly mention his friend Biggs who he hasn't seen since leaving for the academy (probably about a year ago.) Which is how things would be if Biggs was indeed part of the Rogue One mission, a it seems unlikely that he'd drop by Tatooine on his way back to Yavin.

Biggs did fine in the Battle of Yavin. He was in an impossible position covering Luke, but he did his duty.

I was under the impression that he choked. Wedge got hit and had the wherewithal to pull out. Biggs panicked and was shot down. I suppose it's open to interpretation.

[ETA] Actually, going by the script's stage direction, not so open. It makes several references to Bigg's panicking and struggling with his controls.
