Rogue One (2016) [SW Anthology Series)

When 44 years old you reach, look as good, you will not

I'd much rather see a Ben Kenobi film set in between ROTS and ANH with Ewan reprising his role.

I'm pretty meh on the Han Solo film, doesn't seem right having someone other than Ford playing him.

Well there were a bunch of younger Han Solo stories back in the day. Two trilogies worth of them.

I'm interested in a Han Solo prequel, but I won't really be able to form much of an opinion until I hear who they cast.

So two hours of either Kenobi not doing much on Tatooine (aka the ass end of nowhere according to Luke Skywalker) or Kenobi some how going on an adventure that doesn't leave much evidence of his involvement so The Empire can still think he's probably dead by the time of A New Hope.

Well, the novel Kenobi is about an adventure Obi-Wan gets mixed up in shortly after he arrives on Tattooine. It's actually quite good.

Yeah, the idea of a Kenobi movie between RotS & ANH leaves me cold. I mean, he's not hermiting out in the jundland wastes for the sheer joy of it, yes? He has one job: to watch over Luke. That means he shouldn't be nipping over to the inner rim for some random mission. Doing so would put Luke in jeopardy because:-

1) If he's caught/killed then Luke will be left with no one to look out for him and he *will* eventually be discovered by the Empire (probably when he shows up at the academy for pilot training.)

2) If he makes it back he may still have just let the Empire (read:Vader) know that he's still alive and may track him back to Tatooine. (see:above)

I agree that Ben shouldn't be off on some mission unrelated to protecting Luke. The drama could come from his having to go out on a mission to prevent Luke from being discovered. It's a needle to thread, and whether it works would depend on the specifics. I think that Ewan's performance was generally well-received and that he was one of the highlights of the PT, which is why there's interest in a Kenobi film.

I don't disagree about Ewan McGregor, just the plausibility of any plot they might come up with that doesn't entirely consist of communing with Qui Gon, keeping up the "crazy old wizard" persona and general hermiting out by the Dune Sea.

Any plot that had Kenobi going off world to "stop Luke's identity from being discovered" would have to be terribly contrived since the only people who even know he exists are either 1) Dead. 2) Already on Tatooine 3) Hermiting it up in a slimy mud-hole 4) a midwife droid and 5) an Imperial senator.

That last one is by far the most credible scenario (unless one were to suggest a gyno-droid should be the focus of this?), but it still wouldn't make much sense since Leia would be the one more immediately at risk and ANH strongly implies that Bail hasn't contacted Kenobi since the war and that Leia had never met him in person.

I'm not saying they *couldn't* make that movie, just that it'd be a commercially motivated decision, not a creative one since that part of Kenobi's story is already pretty well sewn up.

A pre-TPM Kenobi movie is a bit more credible (on the run with Satine & Qui Gon?), though it'd necessitate recasting the role again, which rather defeats the purpose.

After a rescue of a teenaged Luke, Old Ben is told to never come back by Owen. Old Ben sulks off after having been there for the over a decade. Decides to do something for once. Owen can take care of Luke for now. Its not like he's going to let Luke leave the farm.

The other way is to have Kenobi have a set of adventures right after leaving Luke with Owen and Beru. Ewan is still the right age to pull that off if you compare his age with that of Guinness. This mission? To erase himself from the Galaxy. Remove all traces of himself that he can. Or Setup a set of safe houses for lost Padawans and others that escaped. Use the last of his military skills and contacts to make everything drop off the Empire's radar. When he's done, the Jedi will be no more than a legend with the Force seen as "simple tricks and nonsense". What better way to hide then to have it so that no one would even thing about looking for a Jedi. "They've been dead forever" (wink wink). Then he can got back to his exile, safe that no one is going to look for him. Only Bail knows he is there, and he'd only send for him in their most desperate hour.

"Watching over the boy" does seem to devolve over the years into just waiting for Luke to come visit. If Luke had stayed home on the day the Stormtroopers came calling, he'd be dead alongside his folks and Obi-Wan probably wouldn't have know about it for weeks.

He must get bored too. I bet most of the time he was 'communing with Qui-Gonn' he was really just blathering to himself. That wizard's just a crazy old man. ;)

Obi-wan trusts in the Force. He will go where the Force takes him. If that is away from Luke for a time...well? That is the way of the Force.

Well someone would probably need the force just to bug him to do something what with being a hermit staying under the radar enough that one of the only two people who know he's still alive has to send someone to get him.
