Rogue One (2016) [SW Anthology Series)

Rebels doesn't have a crawl or narration, just the title screen. As long as it still feels like Star Wars, I'm fine without it.
With 'Clone Wars' the narration worked both as a way to allude the text crawls from the movies and it enhanced the feel of the wartime setting by evoking old WWII newsreels (which directly ties it to the old Saturday matinee serials from which all this was inspired.) It also have a very practical function in tying the narrative together since the story didn't always focus on one particular group of characters and would tell all sorts of disparate stories.

Rebels has a much tighter focus both in it's scope and it's cast of characters. Also not being quite so serialised there's no need to catch the audiences up very time. As mentioned above, all this comes from the old Saturday matinee serials that were little 5-10 min episodes that always ended on a cliffhanger and were probably often shown out of order. None of that is a concern with Rebels so they just play the fanfare and get on with the adventure.

Honestly I'm not sure which way they'll go with 'Rogue One', though my gut says they'll likely keep the classic fanfare & text crawl intact. If nothing else it helps to serve as a nice familiar way to ease in audiences before changing things up, but also help place the story in time. Since this takes place right before ANH, the Han Solo movie *probably* happens about 10 years before that and if the Kenobi movie happens it could take place even earlier or between the two. Point is, these movies are going to jump around in time a bit and not always feature familiar characters or settings (even more so if they ever to something like a KotOR movie.)
The crawl is a useful tool to get the basic exposition out of the way without the audience actually feeling like they're getting an exposition dump and instead accept it as a convention of SW movies.

I personally would like to see the text craw kept for these movies. If any movies need a little intro explaining how they fit into and what's going on at this point, it's these

Hey, sorry if this has been answered, but any characters from Rebels in Rogue One?

It seems like a natural tie-in....

None that have been confirmed to date (unless you count the likes of Bail Organa) though we won't know for sure until it comes out.

Honestly I very much doubt it. The events of the show are still at least two or three years prior to those of 'Rogue One', so it'd be a bit tricky for any of the core characters to show up as a cameo, or even mentioned in passing. Plus the recent episode established that Dodanna is running a difference cell from them so there's no intrinsic reason why they really should be there.

A more likely scenario is that if the show eventually catches up with the movies, they'll do an episode showing what they were up to while all that was going on. Which may or may not feature cameos from certain Rogue One characters.

Yeah, I'd think Rogue One characters on Rebels would be a lot more likely than the other way around. I wouldn't be surprised if we did end up getting appearances by characters like Krennic, Andor, or Galen Erso somewhere along the line.

Or even Jyn herself. Definitely pushing small universe syndrome, but I wouldn't be surprised if we get an episode featuring her getting mixed up with Lando or Hondo or whatever.

honestly, i'm more interested in seeing some of the vehicles and troopers from Rogue One showing up on Rebels.

Just a heads up: they just announced there will be a new trailer dropping early tomorrow and have revealed the new poster on 'The Star Wars Show'.

And oh hey, look! It's Gareth Edwards there in person doing a skit. Yeah that's totally the director of a troubled project on the outs with the studio...right? ;)

^He actually appeared twice, once for the trailer announcement/poster reveal and again during the Going Rogue bit.

Now that's what I call a GREAT trailer!

Plus classic X-wings!!! I LOVE X-wings!!!

^I saw some Y-Wings in there too. Also an AT-ST, a Nebulon-B, Blockade Runners and a whole bunch of GR-75s.
Oh and a huuuuuge Jedi statue!

No sign of Bail in that briefing scene though as the guy we assumed was him is someone else, but with a similar costume to one he wore in RotS. Perhaps he'll appear as a hologram, or we'll actually get a look at Alderaan at some point?

Nice that they're slipping some Mon Cals into the Yavin scenes. It always bothered me how the old EU interpreted their absence prior to RotJ to mean they'd only just joined up. Now we can believe they were there the whole time, just slightly off screen. ;)

It appears the Rebel fleet arrives as part of the engagement. Including multiple Nebulon-B frigates, Blockade Runners (which the Star Wars Databank in now calling Alderaanian Cruisers as oppose to Corellian Corvettes), the Gallofree Yards Medium Freighters, as well as those Old Republic style hammerhead ships they introduced last season in Rebels.

Might be part of what Thrawn was hunting in Rebels.
