Rogue One (2016) [SW Anthology Series)

I was wondering too, of the tone as I plan on taking my family (including 11 & 6 year old). Like will it be Revenge of the Sith/Empire Strikes Back level, or more?

Is Donnie Yen portraying a Jedi? (He mentions the force)

Any word on any sort of tie-in to Rebels? It'd be nice to at least someone in the background (perhaps Chopper or some pink armor)

Also, did I remember correctly that Rogue One is supposed to lead directly into A New Hope? If so, no word on who is playing Leia? Or will it be a silent body double?

^Donnie Yen isn't a Jedi, but like Lor San Tekka and Maz he is a believer in the force.
I love that the new universe includes non-Force sensitive people who still believe in the will of the Force, as the Jedi did. It never made a lot of sense to me that so many non-Jedi would dismiss the Force even though it very obviously existed.

The only tie in we know of to the animated series is Forest Whitaker as Saw Guerrera. I think they've made comments about RO elements possibly popping up in Rebels, but I don't think anything has been officially announced.

I don't think anyone has said how directly it'll lead into ANH. The only OT characters we know will be part of the movie will be Mon Mothma and Darth Vader, but I don't think we even know how big their roles will be.

It was actually there right from the get-go as both Dodonna and Ackbar invoked it before going into battle, but it was never really elaborated on in later movies or the EU. You get a general sense of it in Ahsoka's last arc in TCW, with the bomber being a non-Jedi worker in the temple and what such people must go through to do so. The implication is that they're very much believers, both in the force and in the role of the Jedi.

Are the stand alone movies only going to focus on the Original Trilogy?

I found it a bit heavy handed, but interesting.

So does part of this movie take place on Tatooine? That certainly looks like an orbital shot of Tatooine in the scenes with the "upside down" Death Star, and the scene with the Grand Admiral and other Imperial officers looking at a planet on a screen, and the scene with Jynn meeting the Alan Tudyk-bot looks like it takes place in front of one of those "apartments"(?) in Mos Eisley we see C-3PO and R2-D2 hide in in ANH.

Would also explain a set photo posted online a while back featuring Walrus Man and his "I don't like you either" friend.

They may show Tatooine at the end but those shots are not Tatooine but of Jedha. Supposedly an ancient Jedi city supposedly holding a huge
Kyber Crystal
that the Empire wants. The intel leads them there, investigating the other big McGuffin. That the big thing that happens at Jedha is where the
Death Star uses Jedha to test it's "SUPER LASER" and Saw and everyone on the planet is killed. Thats them rocketing away at Lightspeed from the destroyed planet in the trailer
The Beach planet of Scarif is where they were/are building the Death Star and probably where they get the information about the Death Star's weakness. I believe because of the Rebels getting the plans that
Darth Vader will cut Director Orson Krennic in half before going on to try and catch the stolen plans

I just enjoy this,

We only know about two of them so far, but both of them appear to be. We still don't know anything about the Han Solo movie other than a couple of related characters who are possibly in it, so there's always a chance that could tie back into the prequels.
Honestly, unless they do something back in the distant past, I have a feeling most of the anthology movies will probably go back to the OT or sequel trilogy. With the general opinion on the prequels being less than favorable, I don't see Disney having much of a desire to go back to them. So far all of the movies I've heard people talk about, Obi-Wan, Boba Fett, and Yoda, are tied just as much to the OT as the PT.

Although a Yoda movie could potentially be in the distant past. Then again, I'll be surprised if there ever is a movie about Yoda's youth or something, you know what with them wanting him to remain enigmatic. A movie about Yoda, Count Dooku in his youth with padawan Qui-Gon Jinn might be interesting, but probably too prequel-centric for Disney to take interest.

It very well might, but I think that there would need to be a compelling reason to do such a project besides simply connecting up canon dots. Same applies to Rogue One, but the trailers suggest that there might well be, which is great.
