Roger Waters: The Wall Live

I've just purchased my ticket for the May 31st show. It seems so far away...
I agree with you, T'Baio about the complementarity of Waters and Gilmour. Gilmour said he would make a guest appearance during the tour, especially during C-Numb. But it will be a one time event.
I pretty much enjoyed the DSOTM tour Waters did 3 years ago. It was spectacular.

Where were your seats?

I had what i consider the best seats in the house, personally.

I don't like floor seats, because they're only good in the first couple rows, but for a show like this, you miss out on a lot of the spectacle being that close. So I was directly in front of the stage right at the beginning of the bowl seats in the 2nd row. In the ACC in Toronto, you're really not that far away, and if you're in the first row of bowl seats, your view is still blocked by people standing and walking around in front of you. 2nd row you can see straight over everyone's head and take in the full scope of the show. Perfect seats.

I can guarantee bucks have been spent on the show, and you can see it. I still can't figure out their projector technology, though it's not like I'm an expert. Even when Roger or the band were standing right in front of the wall while something was "projected" on it, there was no shadow cast. So I can't figure out where it was projected from. The projection also seemed to be calibrated to each brick, because as the bricks were being placed during a projected piece, they would remain dark until perfectly placed, then all of a sudden they lit up their portion of the image. On top of that, the projection never went through the holes in the wall, lighting up what was behind it, or over those standing in front of it. It's like each brick was a screen more than having something projected on it, but I know that's not how it was done. Does anyone know how it all works?

Oh...and many of the projections are borderline 3D. I was incredibly impressed with the dimensionality of it all. The whole show was just incredible...it even had hot naked chicks. Ha! :techman:

It all sounds great. I was thinking about our seats being too close to take it all in, but then again the view from the second row shouldn't be too bad...

;)

I hope as others attend they'll post their impressions.

I have my ticket for the 30th of May. Both shows are sold out in Paris (the 1st one being sold out very very quickly). I feel lucky :)

I am going to the last U.S. show December 14th in Anaheim. Ironic the first concert I ever went to was Pink Floyd(minus Roger) for their 87 tour. I never thought Id get to see Roger live but I am stoked!

Where is he playing in Anaheim?

I think he's playing Staples Center a couple nights too. So Cal should be well represented.

My show finally came around. We saw The Wall Live on Friday night in the lovely city of Oakland.

Let me just start at the end and work my way backward. This is the best concert I've ever been to, and I've been to hundreds. Simply, utterly, amazing.

The production was huge, the technology to project the images and videos on the wall was incredible, and the sound system he's using on this tour made everything sound crystal clear.

Roger is pretty spry for a 67 year old man! He really put on a big, theatrical show. His voice sounded excellent, and everything was live except the megaphone section of Waiting for the Worms (which was off the hook). In fact the whole second half of the show was a complete mind-scrambler. It's very interesting how this material has been re-imagined in a modern context completely seamlessly.

We had second row center seats, and it felt like we were inside the production. It was almost overwhelming in scope and scale. Unfortunately my crappy Blackberry took crappy pictures (he explicitly allows photography as long as you don't use a flash). Here's me and my friend at intermission, with our backs against the wall....

 Not a great picture I know, but it was a rough night...

Another friend of ours took great photos at the Tampa show, which you can check out here:

In any event, if this show is coming to your town, go get tickets. Now. You will not be disappointed.
