Roger Ebert Presents At the Movies... heading to PBS in 2011.

^ The link I posted above shows some of the big markets on the page, and has a link to a PDF with a full list of stations with airdates and times. For example, the show won't start airing where I live until two weeks into February.

I like Ebert, but I can already tell this is going to be a chore to sit through every week. This format was novel back when it started in the '70s, but now there are so many movie blogs, online video reviewers, and talking head cable shows that I can't see why I'd want to sit and watch two more bloggers give their unremarkable opinions on new movies.

And that Ignatiy guy liked every single movie he reviewed! That's got to be a sign of real trouble. At one point, he even praised The Green Hornet because they used a crossfade in a 3-D movie. I wanted to reach through the screen and strangle him. That's not a stylistic choice, you ninny, it's a bad post-production conversion from 2-D!

Yeah, I didn't like either of the reviewers, and my wife was actively annoyed by both of them, so I guess we won't be watching. Getting Roger's yearly movie guide will be sufficient.

Yeah that original schedule said Friday nights, but here it looks like its going to be Saturdays at 11 p.m. And I missed it anyway!

Perhaps it might be tough to watch nowadays, but it is on PBS, Ebert in a way is going for a super selective niche. He isn't worried about pressure to appeal to anyway like the last ridiculous At the Movies puke was. Perhaps the format will change as this version progresses, with a viral video review from a different blog each week? Maybe this will eventually go all webisode- pick which review debate you want to watch?

I just watched it, and I understand they need a few episodes to get everything situated and get the chemistry flowing, but this was not a good start. For one, the guy kept saying "I completely Disagree" to the point where he was getting annoying. Then we had talking about classic movies and stuff and it was ok but uninspired. I think the thing that got me most on the first episode was the taste in film from the two hosts. They were split on everything, the women hating it and the guy liking it. With that in mind, I question the credibility of them as film critics. I think on the first show they should have chosen movies that they both liked, or the guy liked (Like Black Swan, Kings Speech, stuff that is out for Award Season) but just that trend seemed a bit odd for me.

Also, they reviewed The Delimma, and The Green Hornet? Didn't those movies come out last week? I was kind of hoping they might hit on some of the more selected theater movies out there like Barney's Version (Giamatti won for Best Actor for this movie and I've never heard of it) or Blue Valentine.

I'll probably watch again next week, but I didn't like how everything was split with the guy liking everything and the girl not. Have some variety.

I watched it. The hosts definitely lacked spark, but I'm willing to give it a few episodes.

Herzog narrating Ebert's writing was pretty cool.

Yeah format and issues and finding the right films to review and hit a stride might be tough, but as I say, they have a certain room to play with what and whom they choose. Maybe if some of these no folks don't pan out, they will add another veteran segment.

As a critic, I agree they should do more unusual choices, rather than blanketedly agreeing or disagree on the latest blockbuster flop. Eh, we'll see.

Anyone watch Reelz channel? I can't get into anything they do.

Well, I liked the show, for the most part. I liked the segment on classic films (anyone who talks about The Third Man is OK in my book!) and the review Roger did (in Herzog's voice) made me really want to see My Dog Tulip.

However, Ignatiy liked every damn movie that was reviewed. REALLY? He even agreed that The Dilemma wasn't a very well-made movie, but gave it Thumbs-Up anyway. Huh? :wtf:

Maybe he doesn't want to ruffle any feathers out of the gate? Hmph. Part of the original Siskel and Ebert fun was how serious the arguments got. I don't know who this Ignatz is, so maybe him tossing a little spice in there next time couldn't hurt?

Next time they should have him throw a brick at Christy Lemire's head.
