Roger Ebert Presents At the Movies... heading to PBS in 2011.

This is awesome. I've been occasionally watching the online show over the last few years, but my wife can't stand watching TV at the computer workstation. It'll be nice to sit down with her and watch the show in the living room again.

And, Mitchell should totally go. He's as wooden as Costner on a bad day.
It does sound like he's off the show (though whether that was a show decision or his own, I haven't seen confirmation on) and Ebert has tweeted several times regarding the claims that they're now looking for a mid-20s male "with little or no experience as a movie critic," and he's pointed to this old post for reasons why he'd never do that in the first place.

I just read about this and I am really excited. It made my day. :bolian: And this time, he will have control and hopefully capture some of that old Siskel and Ebert magic from years ago.

Unlikely. The Siskel and Ebert magic was as much Siskel as Ebert. Look at what happened with all the post-Siskel hosts. Not a single one reproduced the sparks with Ebert that Siskel did. They were the perfect team.

Also, I hate to say it but illness aside, Ebert's not the critic he used to be. His reviews used to be "must read" but over the past several years...

Ebert unveiled the official announcement of the co-hosts and contributors for the new show today.

Co-hosts: Christy Lemire of Associated Press & Ignatiy Vishnevetsky of Mubi.com.

Contributors: Kim Morgan of MSN Movies; Omar Moore of The Popcorn Reel; Kartina Richardson of Mirrorfilm.org; Jeff Greenfield of CBS News; Nell Minow of Beliefnet.com; and David Poland of Movie City News.

Well it looks like they did go for a 20-something critic after all, but looking at his resume he's about the furthest thing from Ben Lyons that you could get.

Awesome. Am I the only one who was disappointed when it didn't go right into the show?

Woot! After much searching, I found that my local PBS station is showing it Sunday nights at 9:30.

I'm really looking forward to it.

I couldn't agree more, and I say that because I've always been a huge fan of his writing even more. I especially like the reviews I don't particularly agree with. To me the best film critics (and you could apply to this any form of criticism) are the ones who sort of get a weird argument going on in my head when I happen to disagree. It's not just about writing good, clever reviews that I happen to agree with.

His commentaries for "Dark City" and "Citizen Kane" are also well worth listening to.

The new hosts are a smashing bore, but the woman from AP at least sounds like she gives good advice. The guy, not so much.

This is the time of year when the studios toss out their garbage. Everyone knows it's dismal from the new year till the start of the summer blockbuster ramp-up in May. The odds are very poor that any group of movies reviewed this time of year are all genuinely worth seeing. The odds are much better that none of them are. That tells you which of the reviewers is more likely to be on the money.

I liked the Orson Wells intro to all the personalities in future episodes. Clever.

I didn't see it last night, if it showed here last night. My husband was hogging the tv playing games, so I didn't get a chance to even go through the guide and find out when exactly my Philly PBS is airing it. Probably late Friday or late Saturday I suppose.
