A mildly intriguing idea, that Roddenberry would want a later version of Star Trek to exceed his. I don't have much trouble believing it, truthfully. Granted, while I have never been one to genuflect before a picture of the Great Bird, neither have I made a dartboard of said picture. Still, it would be nice to think GR had enough comfort and security with his work, to recognize others might be able to go him one better. Then again... who is qualified enough to say which iteration is better than another?
It makes sense that to make that call, you have to define just what constitutes "Trek", as has been mentioned already. The unfortunate reality is that this is a point that will be in contention amongst fans long after our own missions to Saturn and beyond.
