Rock and roll hall of fame

They have announced the new inductees, and I can understand Metalica, but Run DMC? Excuse me? What the hell is the criteria for being inducted? Is this the music hall of fame, or the ROCK hall of fame. They even inducted Madonna a few years ago. MADONNA! Rock and roll? I don't think so.

I realize it's biased, being from their official website, but the following sounds like a good reason to include them:
From the first beats of 1983's "It's Like That," their debut single, Run-DMC ignited a revolution that brought hip-hop into the front-line, across television barriers, into the RIAA platinum realm, and straight ahead to the mash-ups that are today's new frontiers of rap and rock. It all starts with Run-DMC's first 4 albums, 1980s classics which have been newly remastered as expanded editions with multiple bonus tracks – a total of 17 tracks between them, including demos, live performances, single B sides, remixes, spiels, and radio spots, most of which are previously unreleased. Arriving in stores September 6th on Profile/Arista/Legacy, are deluxe digipaks of RUN-D.M.C. (1984), the 20th anniversary special edition of KING OF ROCK (1985), RAISING HELL (1986), and TOUGHER THAN LEATHER (1988).

Here's a few guys waiting to get in there.

God, Geddy Lee looks like a kiddie diddler.

Rock's very own pedobear.

Don't they throw you out of Canada for saying stuff like that?

Man, I hate Canada's obsession with their own bands, like we're lucky to have them. "Look, they're a good band, and they're from here! OMG! I must likes them!" The Tragically Hip is the worst. Good band, but their fans are arrogant, date raping, hockey jock douche bags. Generalization, yeah, but still.

Rush is made up of three very talented musicians, who together create the most pretentious, insufferable music Canada has ever seen.

What constitutes rock and roll? What are the criteria? To me, rock and roll is something innovative, fresh and new, created by young people, that bucks the status quo and scares or disgusts old people. Run-DMC was the embodiment of this. I applaud their nomination. Run-DMC are about a thousand times more "rock and roll" than any of the bullshit on the radio today.

Rush should be in on sales alone.. 4th most consecutive gold records

Run DMC is more deserving of the Rock Hall of Fame than MANY who are already in, like Madonna (who I think has already been mentioned here) for instance.

I won't rest until Alice Cooper is in the Hall of Fame... and the Monkees.

Alice Cooper and the Monkees would both almost certainly be enshrined in a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, if such an institution actually existed (that wasn't a complete commercial fraud).

If you're an Alice and Monkees fan, you should be happy and proud that they are not enshrined in the existant Crock Hall of Shame that includes the likes of Madonna and rap "artists".

Let's be honest. White guilt and political correctness are the main reasons for inducting rap or "hip hop" artists.

I'm not a big fan of KISS, but I think their great showmanship and long career should be rewarded with a place in the Hall.

The following bands need to be inducted:

Judas Priest
Rush
Deep Purple
Thin Lizzy
Iron Maiden

Wow, I had no idea that Judas Priest and Iron Maiden weren't in the Hall of Fame. I haven't really listened to much Thin Lizzy, but I certainly agree with the others there.

I don't really have a problem with Run DMC. Early rap groups and rap groups that blurred the line with rock are fine with me (although it should be very unlikely that any rap today would be in the Hall of Fame). Madonna shouldn't be, though.

There's the Country Music Hall of Fame and the Rock Hall of Fame. Rap doesn't belong in either. It belongs in the Rap Hall of Fame.
