Robocop: Rogue City

Well yeah but in this instance I meant why would you care because you probably won’t be plaiting it.

This is kind of a silly level of gatekeeping.

I have no real affinity whatsoever for the Spider-Man character (my only real familiarity comes from the Spider-Man 2 movie with Doctor Octopus, and the Spectacular Spider-Man cartoon from 10 or 15 years ago), but I loved the PlayStation 4 game (and the Miles Morales spin-off) because it was an incredibly well-designed game with fun gameplay, excellent traversal, a solid plot, well-done voice acting and an amazing level of polish. I'm sure I'd like it even more if I were a Spider-Man aficionado, but I didn't need to be in order to enjoy the hell out of it.

Even when I do get a PS5, despite being a huge fan of RoboCop, I can't imagine I'd ever give Rogue City a chance (unless I see it in a $5 bargain bin) because after watching a zillion walkthrough videos, it looks like an absolute chore to play, despite the fan service. I need more than nostalgia keys jingled in front of me in order to enjoy a game.

^^^Trophy hunting on the PS versions, Achievements on the xbox, the platnium trophy on the PS is the last trophy to open once you get all others, hence "plaiting".

But if you’re not a fan why would you care?
Because not everyone will be a fan of a property but will play a game. Games have genre fans, just like movies do, and people will jump in because they like a Publisher, a game type or style. Gaming is as important to them as watching Trek might be to the average poster on this BBS. As a random example, I played the original Fallout because I thought Interplay was a great publisher because of Descent. Or, I was willing to try out an Expanse came because I thought that would be the hook in for me in to that franchise because the show doesn't appeal (thus far.)

So, nonfans can absolutely jump in because they are fans-just not of the property.

So, excluding nonfans is shooting yourself in the foot when it comes to marketability.
