Robin Williams wants The Riddler

Perhaps Nolan should consider raiding the Whose Line Is It Anyway? rogues' gallery. Can you imagine some of those dudes as Riddler? Greg Proops, Ryan Stiles, Chip Esten, hell even Colin Mochrie might work.

It's hard to say. I would think Williams is a bit too old for the Riddler, but then I would have said Murphy was too young to be Scarecrow, and he turned out fine.

I guess it just depends on what kind of Riddler Nolan wants to use, should he be using any. He is one of the most widely-interpreted characters in Batman's Rogue's Gallery; it took a long time after the Crisis to settle on a "fixed" version of the character (and even now it's debatable if they've got one).

I think that Robin Williams would make a great creepy dark comedy type of Riddler. I agree that he does drama exceptionally well. I'm a big fan of his work in the movie "The World's Greatest Dad". I also enjoyed "One Hour Photo" and "Insomnia". Personally I think Joseph Gordon Levitt will indeed get the Riddler role although I think he'd work much better as Black Mask and David Tennant would be the perfect Riddler. I also don't think the Riddler will be the traditional character from the comics. Goyer and the Nolan bros will probably put their own take on him as they've done with the Scarecrow and Joker.

I'm not sold on David Tennant yet. He was fun as Doctor Who, but what I've seen of him outside of that work (his bit part in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire) leads me to believe that he's a very over-the-top actor. Nolan's villains are hardly played over-the-top or hammy. I actually think Michael Emerson (Linus from Lost) would be an interesting choice for The Riddler.

I see Nolan's interpretation of him as someone who is very quiet, introverted, almost like a mad genius. I think Tennant would give a performance more akin to Jim Carrey's extroverted, loud, obnoxious portrayal than the quiet madman that I think Nolan would give us.

I would love to have Robin Williams as The Riddler. As Jackson has already pointed out, Williams is fully capable of playing a chilling and sinister villain as evidenced by Insomnia and One Hour Photo. Additionally, as pointed out by KevasTrader, The Riddler is an excellnt fit in Nolan's Batman universe. I would be very intrigued to see The Riddler playing psychological games with Batman (which is exactly up Nolan's alley as evidenced by all of his films).

Williams did an episode of Law & Order: SVU where he was more or less The Riddler. I mean, there was no costume or anything, but beyond that what he did was pretty Riddler-like.

I hope not. Robin Williams is great and all...but no...it is too late for him to do this IMHO.

If this were 25-years ago or so I would probably hope for Mr Williams; however, at this point I don't believe he's suited for the role.

I find comments like this silly. Because Williams is older he's no longer suited to play a role in which age really isn't that much of a factor? I would say that 25 years ago Robin Williams wouldn't have been ready or suited to play the role. He's a much better actor now than he was then. More often than not, practice and experience are good things. Nolan could go young, older, or somewhere in between. The most important factor is talent. From what I can tell from his casting in past movies, Nolan would agree.

Maybe Robin Williams can be a great Riddler...depends on the version Nolan wants...there are many ways one can go with the character.

Riddle me this, Batman!

What no Wayne Brady?

David Tennant played a really good Hamlet opposite Patrick Stewart. He was brilliant, really. He was rather subdued and more realistic, and his fall into insanity would make me believe he could be the Riddler.

I find Williams to be a better dramatic actor than comedic actor which is odd as I adore his stand up work. I think he'd be a damn cool fit as The Riddler.

Unfortunately, I feel like I would be distracted by him simply because he is Robin Williams. He's a bit too recognizable for me. That said, I do hope they go with The Riddler because I think he would be the perfect villain for Nolan's series.

Then you should watch him in Nolan's Insomnia. Sure, when I first saw him it kind of took me out of the movie, but he went so dark and was so believable as a disturbed murderer that I soon lost myself in the character.

Speaking of control, the one thing I don't remember seeing from Robin Williams is a performance where he feels like someone just on the edge of losing control. I've seen him manic and I've seen him depressed but I don't remember seeing him just on the edge of manic, like it takes all he can to keep it check but it's there just under the surface, which is how I'd like to see him if somehow he was to play the Riddler.

check out dead again.
what you describe is pretty close to what he is in that movie.
you know what he has done but...

i think it was dead again that got people's attention about williams range.
