Robin Williams dead at the age of 63

I was shocked and saddened by the news earlier in the day and I'm still thinking about it now. There are some celebrity deaths who affect me more than others, and Robin Williams was one of those.

One of the first shows I remember watching and loving growing up was Mork and Mindy. It was on Nick at Nite, along with Mr. Ed, and I would watch it with the family. Through the 90s, I would see him in some of my favorite movies growing up: Mrs. Doubtfire, Hook, Aladdin, Jumanji, and Good Will Hunting. I can't believe he's gone, and it does feel like a part of my childhood died too.

RIP Robin Williams, and thank you for the Laughs. :(

I also found out The Fisher King and The Birdcage were on Netflix. I've never seen either, and maybe one day I will finally see Dead Poets Society.

I went to computer to check the news after breakfast and this is the first thing I see. I was just staring the headline for a moment, just could not believe it at first. It is truly a huge shock and very sad:borg:.

R.I.P. Robin Williams
Thank you for all the laughs, the movies and all the great moments.

Hook is there, too.

I've had Dead Poets Society on my mind all morning and I think I have to watch it again when I get home from work tonight. Until then:

O Captain! my Captain! our fearful trip is done,
The ship has weather’d every rack, the prize we sought is won,
The port is near, the bells I hear, the people all exulting,
While follow eyes the steady keel, the vessel grim and daring;
But O heart! heart! heart!
O the bleeding drops of red,
Where on the deck my Captain lies,
Fallen cold and dead.

O Captain! my Captain! rise up and hear the bells;
Rise up—for you the flag is flung—for you the bugle trills,
For you bouquets and ribbon’d wreaths—for you the shores a-crowding,
For you they call, the swaying mass, their eager faces turning;
Here Captain! dear father!
The arm beneath your head!
It is some dream that on the deck,
You’ve fallen cold and dead.

My Captain does not answer, his lips are pale and still,
My father does not feel my arm, he has no pulse nor will,
The ship is anchor’d safe and sound, its voyage closed and done,
From fearful trip the victor ship comes in with object won;
Exult O shores, and ring O bells!
But I with mournful tread,
Walk the deck my Captain lies,
Fallen cold and dead.

This was utterly shocking. What an insidious thing depression is to kill someone who was the epitome of life. He was like a broken water main of humor and creativity and insight, an open fire hydrant of laughter on a cruel Summer day. There was no stopping him. He seemed endless. This is awful.

RIP, Robin Williams. :(

This is so, so sad. A uniquely funny man who brought so much laughter into the world. I couldn't believe it when I heard the news this morning. What a crap start to the day.

In addition to his talent, he was by all accounts a genuinely nice, kind and generous man. I don't ever remember reading a bad word about him on a personal level.

Depression is such an awful thing. If anything good comes out of this terrible loss, it's that it might highlight how insidious it is, that it can afflict even a man so apparently happy and full of life.

RIP, Captain, my Captain.

Terrible news. My favorite Robin Williams movie is Final Cut. It won't play the same anymore...
Today I dug out all the Robin films I had on hand...Hook and Death to Smoochy will go over okay, but the other three I have are Bicentennial Man, World According to Garp, and What Dreams May Come. Spoiler alert, might be hard for a little while to watch the ones where he dies. :(

Well that sucks. They had finally decided to do a sequel to Mrs. Doubtfire, and then this. It makes me wonder what might have been.

Tank you, tank you, let's all get down, get funky. And now da lovely Lennon sisters gonna sing "I can't get no satisfaction." Tank you girls, dat was a bitchin' boss song. And now let's hear it from da brothers in da band, each and every one o'dem is a badass mother in his own right. Play dat funky musik, white boyce!

The whole world has lost something incredibly special and there's just no way that hole can be filled.

Robin's brain wasn't wired like everyone elses, for both good and bad. Who else would have come up with Elmer Fudd sings Bruce Springsteen ? Who else could have ?

A brilliant, brilliant comic, a fine dramatic actor, a man who everyone described as really kind. A troubled genius, and a terrible loss to those that never knew him. I can't imagine how those close to him are feeling.

Goodbye Robin, and thank you.

Super. Duper. Fucking. Depressed. And. Saddened.

We lost another great one, and not natural causes, but to suicide due to depression.

All I can think of now is this scene from Good Morning Vietnam to remember him by:

Maybe I'll just laugh like Mary Richards wanted to, or cry-I don't know anymore.

All that I know is that a great part of my life's gone.
