Roberto Orci Offers Star Trek 2 Update

Then they wasted their money.
Well, it looks like the guy that runs this whole Phase II stuff is a fanboy with a lot of money to blow so as long as he gets to act alongside his favorite ST actors, he probably considers it money well spent.

Hahah " Commander Kirk "

oh man.

Can anybody tell me why I should join the usual bitchfight with Dennis and number6 even though my comments about originality in Orci/Kurtzmans works were only directed at a quote made by newtype_alpha about the Hawaii 5-0 remake feeling/looking like CSI Miami, who hasn't responded because he probably rightfully thinks "I don't give a fuck"?
I haven't responded because
1) I don't give a fuck
2) My wife has been unusually horny the past two days
3) Didn't feel like it.

Most of the others have already dealt with the issue, but Star Trek isn't exactly winning the nobel prize for originality either. TOS had several episodes basically copying the style of Twilight Zone and Forbidden Planet for many episodes; TMP ripping off the "jump to lightspeed" effect from Star Wars, and then TWOK attempting to produce "Horatio Hornblower In Space." There's First Contact basically ripping off "Aliens" by having the Borg setup a "hive" in the basement and giving them a creepy-lookin "queen," and also adding the injection tubules to really work the zombie-movie angle. There's Insurrection trying to emulate Search for Spock, there's Nemesis trying REALLY HARD to emulate Wrath of Khan; there's Voyager trying to emulate TNG, Enterprise trying to emulate Voyager, DS9 trying to emulate TNG and then giving up and copying Bablyon 5 instead.

Good writers tend to borrow ideas and inspiration from other stories and then modify and repaint and redesign them with a new twist. The reason originality is so rare in fiction writing is because many GOOD ideas have already been done and many ORIGINAL ideas aren't necessarily good. I'm less interested in Hawaii Five-0... or for that matter Star Trek... resembling other productions as I am in them NOT SUCKING ASS.

OGAM was an intolerable pile of fanwanky pandering crap.. What the hell was that space battle about at the end?? They got the words wrong to "Charlie's Our New Darling," and boy was that scene sappy. I felt cheated of 90 minutes of my life. And this guy wanted to produce season 5 of ENT. I think we all dodged a bullet.

Then theres the annoying thing about

Mitchell needing an evil empire type organization to take over despite the fact that he should have been able to snuff out suns by theat time yet he's been majorly depowered what happened to being a month from all powerful being in Where No Man Has Gone Before.

Agreed. That whole battle sequence at the end made no sense, especially given Mitchell's God-like powers. This made Roddenberry On Patrol looks like Citizen Kane!

Oh gawd, why did you have to remind us of that "Roddenberry on Patrol" project?

I am so excited. I hope there is lots of the good Doctor in this film. I don't think McCoy bitched enough in the last one.
