Roberto Orci Offers Star Trek 2 Update

Nah, I think most fanboys want something new with some nods to TOS such as Harry Mudd selling wives with a BOGOF deal in the background of an Orion space hub or a salt vampire on Rura Penthe.

Having said that, I wouldn't class a klingon or romulan antagonist as a TOS rip off if the villain him or herself is new. I'd be quite keen on seeing Kang, Kor, or Koloth get a cameo too since they rather respected Kirk.

Well I'm an old TOS fangirl and I'd rather see an old but interesting villain who got short shrift in TOS brought forward and re-colored. OR, make a new one. Any species is okay, especially a new one. But that may be too much work for the writers!

I agree: Kor would be an excellent "villain"!

Perhaps he and Kirk come to develop a mutual respect? They could unite against a common foe, or disaster...?

Kor would be a good choice and could introduce the NuKlingons. Kor is a ruthless but "lawful" Klingon lord, and would be a very challenging villain for the largely-untried NuKirk to be put up against.

Played by James Callis Maybe :)

I'm not keen on a completely new race though. Star Trek's tendency to produce a species of the week is one of its most irritating features. There are dozens of pre-existing species that have been barely developed and yeah, a villain like Kor who isn't a maniac or whose goals are political rather than homicidal would make for a much more intriguing plot. I don't see NuTrek becoming intellectual any time soon though!

Like "The Undiscovered Country" and "Insurrection?"

Actually, Kor would be an excellent adversary.

All the other Trek movie villains from Khan to Nero have been unhinged to some degree, but to have Kor, who is just a dedicated soldier who happens to be on the opposing side, that in itself would be something fresh.

The biggest problem i had with TUC was the hammy, overly self indulgent way the senior crew were portrayed, although the movie was still very popular. The weakest element of Nemesis for me was the absence of any coherent political agenda on the part of the rebel Romulans. One of the most fun parts of Generations was the return of Lursa and B'etor even though they were tacked onto the Soren plotline.

Overall, any villain will only be as good as their involvement in the plot. This is why I'm generally in favour of an 'original' villain/situation with some involvement from TOS characters but not the invention of yet another new race.

Not against new villain(s) in principle, but I guess we won't know until too late. If following principle of JJTrek = nuTOS, much as I love Doomsday Machine can't see working today on big screen. Most memorable TOS I recall:
Khan (obvious)
Kor
Kang/Trelane (mostly because of actor)

Shame can't do Romulans now they've ruined them :(

Bring on the Denobulan terrorists! :rommie:

Why? Romulus won't be destroyed for another 129 years in the Abramsverse.

:guffaw: See, I'm still confused after seeing film half a dozen times. But on a purely aesthetic level...damn, those JJ Rommies are ugly mofs. So idea of JJ Balance/Enterprise Incident Commanders just make me *shiver*...

However, willing to be proved wrong :)

I doubt all the Romulans are the MCR versions we saw in XI :P

Hope so :) Would love to see Pine/Quinto up against nuEntIncident Romulan Cmdr :)

Who should/could play her is subject for another thread, methinks...

The Rommies can't be ruined at this point; even after decades and two realities, we still don't know anything other than surface attributes.

For starters, Vulcans need logic to control their inherently explosive emotions. For Rommies, it's _____. What is that? We still don't know! :rommie: They need more screen time, just so we can finally start to get a handle on who they are.

I'd be perfectly happy if the next two movies just focuses on Rommies and Klingons. Movies are just two hours apiece and change; I'm not going to get bored in that length of time!

According to this, Bob's playing down the rumours that a TOS season one villain will resurface while hinting again that the baddie might not be a person at all but some force of nature.

Bring on the Space Ameoba!!!

Too bad Spock's taken and can't use the subterfuge with my manly charms route to get that device :P

hey, we can always break up Nyota/Spock :)

Subterfuge - one of the essential elements of Trek (from TOS to XI). And long may it be...

Hell, the Suliban should still be around, and some of them can turn invisible.:alienblush:

I always felt the Doomsday Machine was worthy of a big-screen treatment, especially if you can actually arrange to SHOW the machine destroy an entire planet along with its population and also SHOW the machine tearing Constellation a new asshole. There's lots of cinematic potential there.
