Robert e Howard,Edgar rice Burroughs & H.P.lovecraft comics & books

Re: Robert e Howard,Edgar rice Burroughs & H.P.lovecraft comics & book

You don't need Itunes. As long as you have the Quicktime media player you're fine. The only reason they call it ITunes is because it's Apple.

They should make a biographical thriller with these three guys having an adventure or something. They were all around at the same time.

Re: Robert e Howard,Edgar rice Burroughs & H.P.lovecraft comics & book

Just watched the John Carter trailer, and it looks really cool.

Howard and Lovecraft even knew each other, were both published in the same magazine Weird Tales and had some correspondence.

I wonder if Weird Tales itself could be a movie. Lovecraft, Howard, Clark Ashton Smith, Robert Bloch, some sixteen year old kid called Tennesse Williams submitting a lurid bit of Egyptian fancy...

Coming Soon.com page for the trailer. I like the fact that they've worked EGB into the movie. I know from what I've read that the book is presented as a real story that he discovered and I like that they are apparently playing with that in the movie too.

Not quite the same thing, but you should check out The Chinatown Death Cloud Peril by Paul Malmont, in which Walter Gibson (the creator of The Shadow), Lester Dent (the creator of Doc Savage), and a young pulp writer named L. Ron Hubbard team up to investigate the murder of H. P. Lovecraft . . . .

It's a great book!

Re: Robert e Howard,Edgar rice Burroughs & H.P.lovecraft comics & book

I was thinking of starting another thread like this to disscuss the works of these authors George R. R. Martin, Robert Jorden and Terry Brooks. I thought I ask here first to get opinions on this kinda thread. I know there are some that are covering the game of thrones but I wanted to talk about his other work as well as the others.

can't wait for conan to come out.

Also along the same lines is the graphic novel Five Fists of Science in which Mark Twain and Nikol Tesla battle against the evil plans of Edison, J.P. Morgan, Andrew Carnegie and Marconi.

Very entertaining stuff.

Hmm. I see that Malmont seems to have a new book out that involves Heinlein and Asimov fighting Nazi super-science or something. I'll have to check that out.

sounds very interesting. i just ordered this book based on your description. The Arcanum is a similar book. it teams up Houdini, H.P. Lovecraft and Doyle as they search for the Book of Enoch.

It's been years since I read the original stories, but I recall him running into a vampire woman in "Hour of the Dragon," a killer ape in "Rogues in the House," and an (implied) alien in "The Tower of the Elephant." And some kind of alluring demi-goddess in the "The Frost Giant's Daughter."

It wasn't just evil wizards . . . .

I've been reading the original stories (in the nice Gollancz edition, for the curious) and Yag-kosha from "The Tower of the Elephant" is definitely an alien - in the sense of the Lovecraftian gods, anyway.

Of the other stories I've read, he fights giants in "The Pool of the Black Ones", reanimated statues in "Iron Shadows of the Moon", and monstrous eldritch things in "Xuthal of the Dusk/The Slithering Shadow", "Queen of the Black Coast" and "Vale of the Lost Women". None of those stories involve wizards, although Howard's definitely pretty fond of sorcerors calling on the horrible abominations of Set. Guy does not like snakes.

I'm currently on "The Hour of the Dragon", and though the Conan stories can be pretty formulaic at times, the way the first chunk of this story so far is basically just a thinly reworked "Scarlet Citadel" is pretty blatant.

Good times, though, good times. Howard has a keen sense for pulpy reading that's very easy to devour.
