Robert e Howard,Edgar rice Burroughs & H.P.lovecraft comics & books

Re: Robert e Howard,Edgar rice Burroughs & H.P.lovecraft comics & book

can't wait till august for the new conan movie. and then next year for john carter of mars.
Just a shame del Toro's Mountains of Madness adaption got shafted, or you'd have an incredibly prescient thread here.

Re: Robert e Howard,Edgar rice Burroughs & H.P.lovecraft comics & book

why did that get shafted?

Re: Robert e Howard,Edgar rice Burroughs & H.P.lovecraft comics & book

According to del Toro, damned if he knows:

del Toro said:
You may think I’m being glib, but I don’t know. Since the day of the decision, I haven’t had a face to face with them. We’ve exchanged a few phone calls. I my mind, we were given the parameters of a budget and screenplay, and I was given the chance by the studio to create a visual presentation. They were blown away by the visual presentation, they openly admitted to loving the screenplay, saying it was dead on. And we hit the target on the budget they gave us, not a figure I arrived at. This came after months and months of story boarding, haggling with VFX companies, and bringing down the budget number. The week before the decision, I was scouting in the border of Canada and Alaska. We were a week away from opening offices in Toronto. We were crewed up, and frankly, I am as puzzled as most people are. One of the biggest, biggest points for me with this movie was the scope and the R, going hand in hand.

Seems a big budget R-rated movie with albino penguins made investors skittish, I guess.

Re: Robert e Howard,Edgar rice Burroughs & H.P.lovecraft comics & book

well is'nt ron howard sopposed to be doing a lovecraft movie?

Re: Robert e Howard,Edgar rice Burroughs & H.P.lovecraft comics & book

The only stuff that IMDB and Wikipedia have that hasn't come out yet, is his The Dark Tower project.

Re: Robert e Howard,Edgar rice Burroughs & H.P.lovecraft comics & book

okay but dark tower is stephen king.

Re: Robert e Howard,Edgar rice Burroughs & H.P.lovecraft comics & book

I know, I was just saying that that is all they have listed.

Re: Robert e Howard,Edgar rice Burroughs & H.P.lovecraft comics & book

that's cool, any way io9 has a new article and pictures up of john carter of mars movie. some are worried that this may be another avatar with out the smurfs. and I can't wait till august for conan.
here's hoping it will be a success and to that they will be doing red sonja after wards......

Re: Robert e Howard,Edgar rice Burroughs & H.P.lovecraft comics & book

Link please. I just went through two or three pages and couldn't find it.

Re: Robert e Howard,Edgar rice Burroughs & H.P.lovecraft comics & book

well, to be fair Avatar borrowed from A Princess of Mars and other sci-fi properties.

Re: Robert e Howard,Edgar rice Burroughs & H.P.lovecraft comics & book

Robert E. Howard's Conan stories have been great pulp so far. They're swift and to the point, with Conan sometimes arriving as the sturdy survivor of some previous terrible peril just to stumble into an even worse situation with his usual wry, contemptuous aplomb.

And hell, killing the villain in the middle of him making a haranguing speech. That scene's born for a movie.

You say that like it's a bad thing.

Look. Even ignoring the influence it's had on Cameron (and Lucas, and Bradbury, and Clarke) the Barsoom series and James Cameron's Avatar are both from the planetary romance genre, which doesn't often actually get movie adaptions (on account of being by definition seriously expensive to do so).

I'm glad to get more, frankly.

well, to be fair Avatar borrowed from A Princess of Mars and other sci-fi properties.

And Lawrence of Arabia, and Dances With Wolves, and The Last Samurai, and...

For anyone who is interested Comixology has the first 5 issues of Dynamite Entertainments Warlord of Mars series, and the first 2 issue of it's Dejah Thoris spinoff. I haven't read them yet, so I don't know if they're any good, but I still thought it was worth mentioning.

Re: Robert e Howard,Edgar rice Burroughs & H.P.lovecraft comics & book

the Dejah Thoris series is very fun and enjoyable. Warlord of Mars is good. just a long, drawn out version of the first book with a few changes.

Re: Robert e Howard,Edgar rice Burroughs & H.P.lovecraft comics & book

there will be a second book called "warlord of mars: fall of barsoom Book one:the tide of battle". and then book two: when hell broke loose. all so picked up the dark horse omnibus which collected the marvels series. I just wished it was in hardback.

Re: Robert e Howard,Edgar rice Burroughs & H.P.lovecraft comics & book

I already posted this in the John Carter thread, but just in case someone here doesn't go there I'll post it here too. The trailer for John Carter is being posted on ITunes Trailers today at 10AM Pacific Time.

Re: Robert e Howard,Edgar rice Burroughs & H.P.lovecraft comics & book
