Let me just say that I'm glad to hear that Beltran's getting great reviews. Great, but unsurprising - he's a good actor. Which makes seeing him starring in Fan Film difficult for me ...
Robert's made it abundantly clear over, yay, these many decades, that Chakotay's not his favourite character. That he did not enjoy playing him and would've rather not have. Then, what does he go and do, when he has the option of never having to do so, again? He plays Chakotay ... AND he does it, for FREE!!!
Fan Films aren't even Artistic shorts, like you'd encounter at a Film Festival, done by maverick Art students who are desperate to make it in Hollywood. What Fan Films started out as - and should've always remained - was as a Valentine to STAR TREK. Rather, Fan Films promote themselves as viable alternatives to the show they should be celebrating - particularly if they are using name talent. And they are, invariably, atrocious. The scripts suck. The production values suck. The direction sucks. There's only one reason for name talent to involve themselves in Fan Films and that is to generate interest at their table at Conventions, so that they can sell more autographs and other goods. Otherwise, Fan Films are embarassing shite.
