Good to know that Beltran's keeping himself busy! No more Fan Films ... no more egg on his face ... time for legitimate jobs, now.

I just might have to take a business trip to LA.

What`s wrong with Fan Films? I`ve read that Robert did Renegades because of Tim Russ, he asked him to be in it.

The play Robert is in got many great reviews (and only enthusiastic reviews) and Robert is mentioned: Quote:"The entire ensemble is wonderful. ...Rudy (the fantasic Robert Beltran), Gina’s husband, visits with brother-in-law John (Sal Lopez again), a damaged Vietnam vet, who sneaks into the house when others are gone — for cash, tequila, talk and song. The performance of these two great stage veterans, completely at home in Fernandez’s rich material, is deeply touching."

Let me just say that I'm glad to hear that Beltran's getting great reviews. Great, but unsurprising - he's a good actor. Which makes seeing him starring in Fan Film difficult for me ...

Robert's made it abundantly clear over, yay, these many decades, that Chakotay's not his favourite character. That he did not enjoy playing him and would've rather not have. Then, what does he go and do, when he has the option of never having to do so, again? He plays Chakotay ... AND he does it, for FREE!!!

Fan Films aren't even Artistic shorts, like you'd encounter at a Film Festival, done by maverick Art students who are desperate to make it in Hollywood. What Fan Films started out as - and should've always remained - was as a Valentine to STAR TREK. Rather, Fan Films promote themselves as viable alternatives to the show they should be celebrating - particularly if they are using name talent. And they are, invariably, atrocious. The scripts suck. The production values suck. The direction sucks. There's only one reason for name talent to involve themselves in Fan Films and that is to generate interest at their table at Conventions, so that they can sell more autographs and other goods. Otherwise, Fan Films are embarassing shite.

Well Robert always said that he liked the character at first, but didn`t like the direction his character took over the seasons. Maybe he was hoping that Tim could give the Chakotay character a better development.
And since theVoyagerguys are so close it isn`t a surprise for me that Robert is part of Renegades. They protect each others projects. Robert Picardo, Ethan Phillipps, Robert in Renegades and Garrett in Of Gods and Men.

I think someone can be a good actor on stage and play in a fan film. But that`s me.

I must confess that my friends can often talk me into doing some crazy ... especially, if it's just for shits and giggles. That's great that The Boys of VOY are still best pals, after all these years. I've come across some comments Beltran gave on early seasons, as with the episode "Tattoo," which he felt was a strong episode and he liked Chakotay's function in that story, very much. I like Beltran and consider him to be a fine actor. I know it's corny, but when you're given a lemon, it's really up to you to make lemonade. He could've really done a lot with what little he was given - especially, in the later seasons. But to phone in performances because of it only reflected poorly on himself ... not the staff of STAR TREK. But, if he has fun making Tim's Fan Films, then great. It just seems like time and effort better spent elsewhere, to me ...

He`s on stage again. But now as a singer. I never understood why he did not try musical theatre. I have seen him sing on You tube and in a few movies. He has talent. He will be on stage now together with his brother and his band at Prosprct Theater in Hollywood this New Years Eve.

Me and my friends get together and play music - I'm usually on the bass, or guitar - but mostly, I've found myself doing a lot of singing. I've usually sang background, because my friend John's got the range of a lead singer. But yeah, I've been doing a lot of singing, myself, lately ... so, I'm kind of feeling this comradery with Beltran, right now! I never, ever took him to be a singer - never knew he could sing. I think that's so cool. He acts, directs ... sings ... the Man's a real entertainer, all the way.
