Other that get on my nurves 'Rodney' Williams is not much good at anything. He can't sing, write music, act....
I would really have to ask serious questions before I went to see a movie with Williams in it. He was not even much kop in the tawdry Take That. Beyond that I think actors should stick to acting and singers should stick to singing. I mean lets get Jarvis Cocker as Spock or how about Ian Brown as Chekov. Pete Doherty as Scotty, KAte Moss as Chapel..
Williams sucks...

In fairness though, Billie Piper turned out to be a great actress and far exceeded anyones expectations of her. Sometimes you can be famous for one thing but then turn out to also be good at and become famous for something else.

Well, Billie Piper never had such a horrible reputation, and her acting didn't really turn anyone off (not that I know of, anyway). Robbie Williams on the other hand... too many people all over the world hate him. I'm not one of them, I neither like, nor dislike him, but I don't think people would see "Kirk", they'd look at "Robbie Williams in disguise". That would kill the movie before it had any chance of establishing itself.
But it's bullshit anyway.

One has to wonder WHY famous types want to play of all things a REDSHIRT ?

A big star who's also a Star Trek fan might think being a redshirt in a cameo (complete with over-the-top melodramatic death scene) would be fun. Nobody would remember a blue or gold shirt. Someone like Tom Cruise isn't going to be worrying about his resume.

Frankly I don't care who plays Kirk as long as it's not Robbie 'Roddney' Williams.
And to the guy who says Billi Piper was good in Doctor Who well the truth with her is she was an actor who did some singing when she was younger rather than a singer who became an actor. BAsicly she saw the light that she could not sing and went back to acting.
