River Song Gone?

In the other direction.

Some people were jumpnig up and down about Sarah Jane off handedly kinda mentioning her audio adventure with a Graske during whatever became of Sarah Jane?
She never met a Graske in the audios, and if there's any other references to the audios in the TV show, I've never caught them.
I believe she only said that the Graske was on Earth a few years ago, referring to the interactive Doctor Who story.
yep that is the reference she made, not one im a fan of.

As I said in another thread I am hoping that the mini regen in JOURNEYS END would have a catch, maybe age him quicker (could link it with the River comment of him being so young) and then River could be with the Doctor and then stay with the new Doctor for a short while before leaving because maybe its too weird for her or something.

However RTD will go for epic over a character piece IMO, which will be a big dissapointment for me because I would like his death to be different from his life and be a quiet-ish one.

We had River last season, but we also had Jenny flying off somewhere so thats another thread that can be picked up also at some point.

Jenny is one of my picks for 11th companion.

Imagine Jenny AND River with the Doctor, in the TARDIS.

He'd have a real family. Would be kinda interesting, given all their personalities. Certainly no more, "I don't do domestic."

I have never considered such a dynamic for the Doctor, the family arguments would get very strange

They're both very strong, intelligent, and adventurous women who in their own way could handle the Doctor without completely dominating him.

What makes the dynamic interesting is that each has a different relationship with him, one as a lover and lifemate, and the other as a child and possibly a student.

Each also wants something different, River wanting a husbands love and protection, and Jenny wanting a father's approval. And both want adventure.

It would make a nice saga. Perhaps nothing as long term as a season, but...oh too late...was gonna say instead of no real companions during the sepcials maybe River and Jenny for all five. Nevermind that.

What would be very interesting would be that River isn't Jenny's mom, nor Jenny River's daughter, and their relationship would not be parent and child, but more likely a rivalry for the Doctor's attention, often butting heads abotu the right way to do things, etc.

What would be heartbreaking would be when we got close to when River was going to head to the library, the Doctor knowing but never able to tell. And then after River is gone, possibly forever "dead", talking with Jenny about love and loss.

I think River should stay with Tennant's Doctor. First off, I'd like to have a semi clean slate like we had when the 9th Doctor first meant Rose. Second off, if the 10th Doctor has a long and full life, there are opportunities for Tennant to come back and do another special or two should he wish.

I agree 100% but am deeply afraid the show will be unable to wrestle itself from the NewWho which came before. Heck, the show still can't get over Rose.

I fear that everyone's desire for the Doctor to die of old age is because we secretly are hoping for Tennant to come back as the Doctor, some way, some day. Kudos to him for going out at the height of his popularity, and he'll likely always be remembered as one of the greats. But I fear the fans could have done with at least another season or two, and as Martha Jones proved, it is never good to step into the spotlight when everyone is wishing that your predecessor would give another encore or two.

O!

11 could meet River briefly, but then feel off and not mention exactly who he is, y'know like how he fluffed his introduction to Sarah Jane in School Reunion?

Hell, he could even be a perve and stalk 10's courtship with her for nostalgia sake... Which isn't half as bad was what Kal El was doing in that abominable movie a couple years ago.

Actually I think it was just Russelty that couldn't get over Rose. She was his fanwank Mary-Sue.

Let's hope so (and I say that as someone who thinks Rose was the best companion). The show needs to move forward, and it can't do that if it keeps obsessing over how much better things were in the past.

I think River Song was both a bad idea to begin with AND horribly and annoyingly acted.

***they've done this other times in the show's run: basically most times, one "Companion" overlaps with another so we know time must be fairly short.....but say, between when Sarah Jane and Leela got picked up by the Fourth Doctor, potentially DECADES could have passed, just "off screen"

similarly, we have no real idea how long passes between when Rose leaves and Martha shows up, or when Martha leaves and the Doctor meets Donna again. Many years could have passed in the "off screen" interrim, during which he met River Song then left her.

We know that River happens after the events of Journey's End, because of the way River reacts to Donna.

I think that probably not much time had passed though, because he usually talks to his newest companion about the previous one, instead of those who were with him several people ago.

Luckily, you're wrong!

What made her a bad idea? In your opinion? Time travel is (obviously) a constant element within Who, so him meeting someone from his future was both logical and arguably overdue. Obviously it introduces continuity threads which some (including me) would like to see picked up, but it could still be ignored. Causality in the Whoniverse is clearly highly mutable. I just like it because it seems to widen the canvas of the show.

I totally get that some folks might not like the idea behind River Song (not that I agree), but to say the character was "horribly and annoying acted" - I have no idea how anyone can come to that conclusion. Different strokes of course, but damn.

I suspect that we'll meet River again, as Steven Moffat is on record saying that he's interested in how the Doctor's life as a time traveller affects his relationships etc.

But I think we'll meet her again when she is much younger. Say about 13. Shades of Lady Diana who at that age had a crush on the 25-year old Prince Charles (pictures of him on her wall and everything).
