RIP Sydney Pollack

Said he worked with Minghella, who died after surgery for cancer in March. I wonder if there's some cancer connection. Thinking like THE CONQUERER with John Wayne and cast/crew. Hopefully not.

It's a shame, because he was one of the few older Hollywood director-actors who was full of energy and life even into his twilight years. He will be missed.

Rest in peace. :(

NO! This is terrible news! :(

I love his work, both as a director and as an actor. I will never forget his appearance on Mad About You.

I didn't even know he had cancer.

Rest in peace, Sydney. :(

Aw, crap. I didn't even know he was sick. Tootsie is one of my favorite movies. And I loved the movie theater "Silence is Golden" ad he did. :(

The only movie of his I've seen was his 1995 remake of Sabrina, but that was head-and-shoulders above the so-called "classic" with Bogie & Audrey Hepburn. I will definitely be checking out some of his other works.

:(

I didn't realize he had cancer. I've come to appreciate him more as an actor than a director, but he'll be missed for his contributions in both roles.

A shame the last thing he did was an appearance in that abomination 'Made of Honor,' although he was at least good in it.

RIP. :(

One of the very few "celebrities" I've encountered in person, and he seemed a very unassuming and gentlemanly person. Aside from his directing and acting, he was an early supporter of the Sundance Film Institute and Festival, and did a lot for the organization behind the scenes.

My wife and I were just talking about him, how solid he has been in his character parts over the years. I didn't know he was sick. RIP, Mr Pollack.
