Said he worked with Minghella, who died after surgery for cancer in March. I wonder if there's some cancer connection. Thinking like THE CONQUERER with John Wayne and cast/crew. Hopefully not.
It's a shame, because he was one of the few older Hollywood director-actors who was full of energy and life even into his twilight years. He will be missed.
The only movie of his I've seen was his 1995 remake of Sabrina, but that was head-and-shoulders above the so-called "classic" with Bogie & Audrey Hepburn. I will definitely be checking out some of his other works.
One of the very few "celebrities" I've encountered in person, and he seemed a very unassuming and gentlemanly person. Aside from his directing and acting, he was an early supporter of the Sundance Film Institute and Festival, and did a lot for the organization behind the scenes.
My wife and I were just talking about him, how solid he has been in his character parts over the years. I didn't know he was sick. RIP, Mr Pollack.
