RIP Pat Hingle

The Lady Eve

Vice Admiral

Another great character actor gone. A generation knew him as Commissioner Gordon in Batman movies but he was a multi-talented actor and a superb stage veteran, too.

Aw, crap. RIP.

I'm glad someone started a thread about him. I just read about his passing on the AP website. :(

:(

RIP, Mr. Hingle. Memorable as Commissioner Gordon in the four 80s/90s Batman films, as well as a notable role in the fourth Dirty Harry movie, Sudden Impact.

RIP, Mr. Hingle.

I actually remember him from The Twilight Zone, playing the title character in the hour long episode "The Incredible World of Horace Ford." Anyone remember that one?

Maximum Overdrive is the first movie I remember seeing him in, as the southern fried shitbag truck stop owner.

He did well as Commissioner Gordon in the Burton movies...and got paid just for showing up in the Schumacher ones.

But his most memorable role that I saw was Hang 'Em High.

Rest in peace Mr. Hingle. I just watched an old MASH with him in it a few days ago.

That was a hilarious episode, if it's the one I'm thinking of. Hingle plays a visiting officer by the name of Daniel Webster Tucker, who takes Hawkeye and the staff to task for their April Fools jokes. Then after Tucker has threatened to bar them from medical service after the war, gets a joke played on him .... and ...well, why spoil the rest of the surprise? :D

Aw, man, he was one of my all-time favorite character actors. He'll be missed.

Sad news again. He was very talented but never made the "big" name...just a capable, steady, solid actor who made his rolls shine.

RIP

According to imdb his first film was On the Waterfront but he was uncredited. A very good start for a man with such a huge career. For a whole generation he was Gordon and as a Batman fan I am sorry to see him go.

I'm sorry to hear about his loss. I still remember the first time I watched Batman and I have noticed that I have recreated his 'entering axis chemical scene' a few times while on assignment.

RIP.

RIP Mr Hingle. Your fine work will be remembered fondly by many people for many years.
