RIP, John Berkey

Artist John Berkey has passed away. Trek fans would know him for his work on the ST-TMP teaser poster. He is known widely for his Star Wars art. His illustrations were widely admired for a vigorous brushwork that supplied depth and energy to his art. In style and subject, he symbolized the era of the Golden Age of Star Trek fandom.

I got to meet him and see his work in person last year at WonderFest; I thought he was going to be at this year's event, too - I guess not. And to think Flux Capacitor's winning entry in this month's challenge reminded me of Berkey's work, too.
