RIP Grace Lee Whitney

RIP Grace. Long may the memory of her live on in all of our hearts. She'll never truly be gone, as long as we remember.

Rest In Peace.
She was the first cast member I meet some 25+ years ago and she will be missed. Condolences to her friends and family.

It's so strange. I never met these people, but I feel so sad when I know they aren't around anymore.
I always liked Grace Lee Whitney. When I made Star Trek Torch I made sure she was included with the big 7.

Grace Lee Whitney was the only Trek regular I ever got to have an extended conversation with at a convention. (a few guest stars, but no one who had been in more than one ep.) My impression was that she was a charming, lovely woman. I hate to use the word "graceful" as it feels like I'm trying to be punny with her name, but it's an appropriate word, I think.

Also, I didn't realize she was older than Nimoy and Shatner.

Rest in peace.

I'm not one of those people to wring my hands over the passing of media figures, especially those I've never met, but Grace I *did* know, at least in a small way. We spoke several times on the phone when I interviewed her about a documentary idea I was exploring, and in 2012 she was nice enough to meet my friend Becky and I for lunch near her home in Coarsegold, CA. She was a ball of fire, very kind, and a lot of fun, relating stories about Star Trek and Marilyn Monroe (whom she worked with on Some Like It Hot), and so on. I have a recording of that lunch, so I'll listen to that when I want to think of her.

I had hoped to see her again in the near future, but now that's not going to happen. So, thanks for the memories and adieu, Grace, we hardly knew ye.

First saw Grace on The Outer Limits probably, but didn't know who she was until Star Trek. She was at my first convention 40 years ago.

According to Family, Grace Lee Whitney has passed away peacefully this past weekend May 1, 2015 in her Coarsegold home. She was born in Detroit Michigan April 1st 1930 where she was adopted by her loving parents Givah and Gordon Whitney. She is best known for her Star Trek character Yeoman Janice Rand of the U.S.S. Enterprise.

We've lost Nimoy and Whitney right before the 50th anniversary. This is getting sad. I hope we don't lose more.:weep:

RIP Grace.
