RIP Gene Wilder

Although he lived to the ripe old age of 83, his death has provoked genuine sadness in many people, myself included. I think those of us of a certain age associate him with part of our childhoods. Plus he was by all accounts a lovely, decent human being, of whom nobody had a bad word.

I was quite surprised to see only recently that his IMDb page contains surprisingly few entries. Yet at least 5 are inarguably iconic.

It must be said that his death notice as announced by his family is one of the most moving and wonderfully written such documents I've ever seen.

The net is full of "at least he's with Gilda again" cartoons and sentiments. Gene has been married for 25 years to a wonderful woman who was at his side throughout his Alzheimers and was holding his hand when he died. I hope she can handle the barrage of ignorance.

He went to Washington High School in Milwaukee, WI. Same school as my Father and his two older sisters. My cousin told me her mom, my Aunt Janet, helped him with his English home work! Gene was still going by his birth name Jerome Silberman.

One of all time favorite actors even if from only a small number of movies.
