RIP Clive Dunn

Clive Dunn, Corporal Jones in Dad's Army has died at 92

He also famously played Granddad, though he was much younger than many of the characters he played.

I have a horrible feeling Pike might be the only member of Walmington-on-Sea's Home Guard left now :(

Sad to see but he had a good old innings. Funny that the actor who played the oldest character on the show (though Dunn always played much older than his years - Jonesy was supposed to have been a veteran of the Great War but Dunn was born in 1920, 2 years after it ended) outlived virtually everyone bar the youngest character (Pike).

And yes, I think Pike (Ian Lavender) is the only surviving member of the Walmington-on-Sea Home Guard still with us, though Bill Pertwee (Warden Hodges) and Frank Williams (The Vicar) are still alive (members of the cast but technically not members of the guard, of course.

Was anyone else's first exposure to Dunn via Grandad rather than Dad's Army?

Another childhood favourite gone.
One wonders if the current generation of sitcoms will have the longevity or indeed the gentle goodnaturedness of Dad's army.

'Permission to die, Sir'
RIP Clive Dunn

I remember watching him as Grandad when I was a kid as well as Jones in Dad's Army

Clive's done. They don't like it six foot under. Probably the best remembered one, but the best comedy in the show came from Mainwaring's reactions to the platoon bumbling around. Corporal Jones and Jack Duckworth in the same week, eh. The world will never be the same.
