Rim Fire - Near Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada

Just curious, are any members of the board up near this area? For the last week there's been this massive fire around that area and with winds and thunderstorms it's really hard to get it contained. I haven't been following it closely, but it sounds like this fire could have an impact on San Francisco's water and utility supply.

Hopefully no one is near this area, but this is one crazy wild fire.

I'm in Fresno, so a bit south. The air isn't terrific, but it never is during the summer. LOTS of reports on the news, naturally.

I have a friend whose house is in Mariposa, pretty far up in the mountains. I'm checking with her how things are.

Reported threats to Frisco's water supply. They need to learn to ration at least a bit.

I was wondering if Fresno is being affected. Every year I go to a family camp in the mountains above Fresno but it looked like it isn't affected yet.

We sent two of our agency fire crews there today.. More than 3,000 firefighters and other personnel assigned... Officials are drawing down the Hetch Hetchy resevoir as much as they can to preserve usable water.. There is already ash-fall in the lake, but as of last report it has not made it to the depths of the water intake pipes..

I'm trying like hell to get an assignment there myself, but they seem to be full up with information officers as of now.

Not only is this fire going to affect the area where San Francisco draws 85% of its drinking water, but area recreation spots are being severely damaged as well.

Here's a link to the inciweb report.
