Right wing cultures in Star Trek

You do realize that neo-con literally means neo-conservative right?

I do. However, neo-conservatism stands for regulated capitalism with an emphasis on global security. The conservative values mean nothing to me.

As with socialism, all political and economic systems and ideologies represent a range on a spectrum. On top of that, this range is relative to their times. Undoubtedly, Nazi Germany was a socialist state for its time. FDR also introduced a substantial amount of socialist policies himself, just not to the same extent. Socialists in the beginning of the 20th century stood for basic workers rights that today exist in virtually every country in the world and from a modern perspective wouldn't be classified as such.

And boy, look at how neoconservative politicians have made the world safer.

I have already explained that this is wrong here. Unless you insist on rejecting academia, just take it from a historian and political scientist and trust me.

Yet there is a significant difference in workers rights when you compare the US to Germany or France. Just calling those countries socialist would still be wrong.

Actually Neoconservatism (commonly shortened to neocon) is a political movement born in the United States during the 1960s among conservative-leaning Democrats who became disenchanted with the party's foreign policy. The term "neoconservative" refers to those who made the ideological journey from the anti-Stalinist Left to the camp of American conservatism. Neoconservatives typically advocate the promotion of democracy and American national interest in international affairs, including by means of military force and are known for espousing disdain for communism and for political radicalism.

I mean that's pretty much what he said, isn't it? He even said he votes for Democrats. Of course, to buy this you'd also have to think "horseshoe theory" is legit.

Yeah, I've always seen the Federation as a kind of democratic socialist utopia (from each according to their abilities, to each according to their needs) and the 'other' major races as being reflections of the less attractive traits of humanity.

Can it really be read otherwise ?"

Actually, the Federation goes the communosocialist ideal one better. It's more like "from each according to his inclination, to each according to their whims".

The problem with socialism in the modern world is that its fundamentally immoral. The government gets to take the money I've worked hard for and gives it to someone else. In any other context, someone taking money/property from one person is called stealing.

This is utter bullshit. Sorry, but if paying taxes to help out fellow human beings irks you that badly, go set up your successful business in the middle of the Artic, or Siberia. I'm sure you'll be fine without roads or any kind of organized protection.

Attaching a label to something does not make it so and manipulating that fallacy is common in propaganda circles. Dictatorships are commonly called things like "the freedom party" precisely because of the cognitive dissonance that caused and the very real chance people will be influenced by the name as much as the reality.

Democratic People's Republic of Korea... aka North Korea. I guess we must now work under the assumption that North Korea is a democracy.

I guess the rich business folks who hate paying taxes so much that they avoid them are so busy running their companies and also building the roads that they drive on, educating the workforce that they intend to employ, building and running the hospitals that they get sick in or where their kids are born, building the school and finding housing for the homes the teaching staff need to live in, keeping the surrounding air they breathe from not choking them to death, etc etc etc
Oh and if their nation gets invaded they have their own funded private militia to fight the war for them and their own funded James Bond to stop Daesh or the Taliban from sending them to Paradise.

Right?

The government using taxation to help the poor, the disabled, the elderly, the sick is "immoral" and "stealing" according to you. Right.

Much of the issues we face, would never be issues to begin with if the rich and corporations were good citizens to begin with. Instead they dump tons of cash into Washington to depress wages, decrease taxes and stop any kind of regulations designed to protect the environment and workers.

Seriously, does any one think that we wouldn't have more stringent gun laws if it wasn't for the NRA and gun manufacturers pouring money into Washington? And they ain't pouring that money in because they believe in anyone's right to own a weapon, they are doing it to protect the profits that such a system creates.

Our social betters have neutered unions and government, the two things that can protect workers and the environment, just so they can have just a little bit more.

I can see the why the Star Trek universe requires a WW3 with the whole system collapsing and an alien 'invasion' for things to drastically improve lol
Humanity learns you can hang together or you can hang separately or you can be blasted to rubble by little green men...take your pick.

I don't think we can save ourselves. I think it will take intervention from a more advanced power.

Which is why in the Star Trek universe the Vulcans made all the difference as per the First Contact movie. Fictional Earth got a wake up call. Real Earth would shoot first and try and retro fit the tech.
Dear Future Aliens do not land in North America!!!!
If there are aliens out there, if they have any sense they would keep moving...

Which we should be able to do on our own. But, we simply aren't that much evolved from our poo-flinging ancestors.

More it wasn't ANY kind of socialism, no more than my German Shepherd is either german or a shepherd.

I think I agree with your point..however...a German shepherd is so called because it is the type of dog typically used as a sheep dog in Germany, historically, one presumes?
Also, much Nazi policy was indeed what would be thought of as socialism...the Volkswagen, people paying in and eventually getting a car...the smoking ban in public buildings recently resurrected by left-leaning governments around the world...I am barely an expert on politics or history, but while the evil sods that were the Nazis were undeniably evil sods, that they also approached things from a socialist bent in many areas is also obvious...the problem is, as stated, it wasn't the 'right kind' of socialism, and modern groups with socialist approaches would rather like that aspect of the Nazis to be...redefined. The Nazis are so far right that they meet up with the far left, and as with all extreme groups, there is little difference when it comes down to the choice between gulag or concentration camp....it always comes down to who is in the tribe (and therefore worthy of its protection) and who is not (and is therefore a resource to be used up, or an enemy to be conquered while providing a useful reminder to those in the tribe why they would really like to stay in that tribe.)
I highly recommend the Space Captain Smith books, where an alien asks, given all political groups tend to skew either Nationalist or Socialist, why humans don't save the the bother of elections and just have a party that is both Nationalist and Socialist. The humans sort of look at each other awkwardly.
Extremes rarely work out well for the human race, it must be said.
