I don't understand the appeal of mocking a movie that's actually good. Sure, there are over-the-top moments (I'm sure they'll have a ball with the part where Kirk yells Khan's name), but making snide comments about a solid movie seems rather pointless to me.
I watched some of their commentary for "The Dark Knight" and thought it was stupid. Why would I want to listen to people making wisecracks about a good movie instead of just watching the movie? MST3K made sense because the movies were horrible, so listening to someone joke about them would be more fun than actually watching them. This is just unnecessary.

Ouch. That's a nasty shot.I thought all Star Trek fans loved that flick. I still can't imagine a roasting of "The Dark Knight" being entertaining. I agree that the Bat-voice is worthy of derision, but that's such an easy target. Too easy.
Which cut of the film are they doing? If it's the theatrical cut, that kinda sucks for those of us with the big ugly grey box.
Yay! Recently re-listened to the Riff Trax of TFF, TUC and GEN. All good stuff!!
Rifftrax, of course is the same basic idea as MST3K, but it's never been just making fun of bad movies. Riff-ing isn't always as insult, but in the jazz tradition of taking inspiration and improvising (yes I know they're scripted, but the jokes had to be improvised at some point) so they go from movie references, to quirky in-jokes, to look-alike references.
At the end of the day, it's kinda like watching a movie you've seen a hundred times with some close friends and literally riffing off each other (part of the reason I don't think Mike's solo efforts were as good as when he's riffing with Kevin, etc.) So sit back, geek out, and laugh along. It's not all about insults.
