Rifftrax Live!: Doing Birdemic in October!

Tonight Rifftrax is doing a live riffing on "Manos" Hands of Fate, a reprisal -of sorts- to the infamous MST3K episode. (Though with new riffs and at the first time we'll hear Bill Corbet's riffs on the movie as he wasn't around when MST3K did it.)

But now I just read that in October Rifftrax will take on "Birdemic Shock and Terror!" in another Rifftrax Live! event. An interesting thing for them to do since unlike previous Live! events Birdemic is one they'd have to secure rights to.

I am in utter anticipation!

Just got back from RT:Manos and I loved it. Great fun, great new jokes. (No real retreads from the MST3K version as near as I could tell.) Fun seeing it with a crowd and some great shorts.

I missed the live Manos show and hope there will be a DVD edition. I've never seen Birdemic, so this one should be fun.

With the announcement that Universal episodes will become available for future DVD releases (the first being Revenge of the Creature in Volume XXVI), it's a good time to be a MST3K fan. It's likely that only the two Godzilla episodes will never see official release, but that's not hopeless either.

Basically, Birdemic is a modern day Manos - an attempt to make a horror movie by people who have no idea about how to make movies. It is so inept, so horrible in every possible aspect that it's hilarious. And it has the worst special effects ever done in any movie.

Birdemic hilariously fails on every, single, level. Not a single thing is done right in the movie beyond casting a hot female lead, and that's slightly screwed up by a "sex scene" where she has hideously dirty feet.

The parking scenes were perfect. That guy knew how to park his car. Half of this movie is almost like an instructional video for those who learn driving.

The "acid" scene. This is the only time the birds demonstrate this ability, in spite of it being something that'd come in handy plenty of times during the course of their "emic."

Interesting note, in the actor commentary on the DVD they say that the Director had put dry ice in the bucket(s) of the juice he was going to use for the "acid." Apparently thinking that when he tossed the juice at the actors the vapor from the dry ice would go along with it. James Nguyen: Not only does he not know how making, filming, writing, directing, or audio-syncing a movie works he's also apparently not sure on how vapor works.
