Rick Sternbach, Rick Sternbach, Rick Sternbach...

They removed the cartoon inserts and replaced them with some actual visual effects.

Not state of the art, but better than the original crap.

Timo Saloniemi

Nosir, they replaced actual model shots WITH cartoons!

They could vent radiation from bleed-through weapons damage

Do you mean "vent radioactive material?" I'm not sure how weapons fire could create radioactive material within a ship that could be vented as a gas or fluid. Any radioisotope creation would probably be within the materials of the ship's hull, due to transmutation from the high-energy impacts/irradiation. It would have to be physically cut out and replaced. Actual radiation -- high-energy particle or EM emissions -- would be travelling at or near the speed of light, so either it would be absorbed by shielding before it reached the crew or it would pass through the crew's bodies and out into space again within a microsecond or two, so there'd be nothing to vent.

Then again, I suppose that if a weapons bolt consisted of some kind of high-energy plasma, some residual plasma could penetrate the ship upon impact. Or a weapon impact could vaporize a portion of the ship's superstructure and turn it into high-temperature plasma, perhaps with some radiogenic particles within it and perhaps with enough heat in it to give off ionizing EM radiation. Maybe that's something that could be collected and vented, though I'd think something that energetic would dissipate itself and cool off pretty quickly.

They could be for extra aerodynamics in space. You know, to eliminate that last 0.00000000000000000000000000000001% of resistance.

I would like to plug something that Rick has made available for sale, over 600 pages of tech memos from TNG, detailing most episodes and the tech advice that he and Mike O. made to the producers over the 7 years of TNG... An amazing document, I will check tonight to see if there is a memo saved from this episode!

What?

When?

Where?

*POOF* he appears! (I hope).

Sorry to bother you, sir, but I have aquestion: On the 1701-D, what the heck are those giant vent-like apertures athwart the bridge supposed to be for?

They're mighty big openings!

Sorry guys,... it's only me.

If it looks like a vent, and vents like a vent,..... well, it must be a vent. Yes, they are a bit larger than designed (I didn't model it), but I was going for a system with the capability of blowing the atmosphere out of multiple decks simultaneously (if necessary) including the main hanger... in one big hurry.

Besides, you know these starships don't have any toasters except in the galley (continuity ?) seen in ST-6: "The Undiscovered Country".

Andrew-

AHA! Than you, Andrew. My first thought was some kind of heat dispersal system. Thanks for stopping by! :)
