Richard Edlund designed the TOS Title Font?

So here I am, watching the first episode of “Light & Magic” on Disney+, and noted VFX guru Richard Edlund is discussing his early career working for Joe Westheimer when Edlund mentions that it was he, Richard Edlund, who designed the original TOS title font! Mystery solved! Well, solved for me anyway. Just FYI.

He also stated this back in 2010 in an interview with the Battlestar Galactica fansite galactica.tv, archived in the wayback machine here.

I did title design on a number of shows like Burke's Law. I even did the original title design for Star Trek, that they now reused in the latest movie -- a kind of corny, angular type style.

Ted Cassidy usually played the Thing, but my impression is that Edlund was his understudy (handerstudy?) when Lurch and Thing had to appear together.
