Rian Johnson directing Star Wars VIII?

Rian Johnson, the director of Looper, and Ozymandias, the greatest episode of Breaking Bad, according to this website has been signed to direct the next installment of Star Wars.

If that's true I'm extremely excited. That's one of the best choices they could have made.

I'm not sure I would agree that Ozymandias is the greatest episode, but it's certainly no slouch...

Johnson is smart to take this. It'll guarantee him a huge hit (even though it would've happened with or without him), and will probably give him some juice to get his cyberpunk flick off the ground.

Disney is going to exert certain controls, but hopefully Johnson can work around these, and allow the limitations to spark creativity. It's probably more of a childhood wish-come-true/bucket-list item for him, than something that offers vast creative possibilities, but I'm still thrilled for him.

Well he's done other films too

But yeah I was pleasantly surprised by this move. I'm not a huge JJ fan and I was kind of worried about the trilogy as a whole. This is giving me hope that JJ is really being reigned in a bit from doing stupid stuff because he doesn't own the whole story.

That aside, Rian is great. Solid choice.
