Rewatching DS9 Thread

"Battle Lines"

One question, why did they (effectively) kill off the Kai? did they already have Winn in the works (Funny enough, I know a whole family of religious Winn females, but that is another story...) The plot line is standard Trek fare (War without reason is bad, M'kay?) but it DOES do something fun, instead of the star fleet engineers or medics figuring out how to stop the technology that allows endless war, and Kira starts her growth. It fun to see some of the characters early on, as they developed so much over the years.

I will hold off on the next one, as I do not have fond memories of two out of the next three.

 

[Supernuke]

"The Passenger" - Hoo Boy, every Deep Space nine season has a episode that is dire. This is it. I suffered a major problem in this episode, in that for my religious reasons, I do not drink, and I needed to drink beer to survive this episode. Is there at any point you have NOT guessed who it is, or that you know that everything will be ok. The only redeeming things for this episode are that the guest star female is wonderful, and that there is no sign of Rumpelstiltskin.

Almost half way though season 1!

I actually really like this episode. Maybe I just don't have a good eye for bad acting, but I always have found this to be a highlight of season 1!

The only part I can't stand with Come Along Home is that stupid scene where Dax, Sisko, Bashir and Kira have to say out loud that stupid rhyme. It is so embarrassing, makes me wanna cut my wrists...

But Distorted Humor you should watch The Storyteller, it's a reasonably fun episode and it ain't atrocious. Now Progress is the most worst episode in the whole of DS9, complete with the dumbest plot. I mean you know that old farmer guy is going to be removed from his farm. But then Kira tries to help him, only to realize the obvious; it's futile what she's doing, and so she burns down the old Bajoran's house. How dumb is that...

Agreed, but Brian Keith was an excellent actor (and a dead ringer for my late Father-In-Law). It was nice to see him in a Star Trek ep, even if it wasn't a steller one.

[Vulcan Princess]

I love Progress. It's one of the finest episodes in the first season. I really feel for the old man for losing his land like that. Thematically, I think it goes along with the DS9 episode Shakaar, the TNG episode The Ensigns of Command and the movie Insurrection. They all deal with people's connection to the land and how that goes along with other people's desire to use the land for other purposes.

I like most of the ferengi episodes, but not Lace....

The Storyteller - better then I remembered, the on planet stuff is bad, however on rewatching you realize that this is really the first Bashir-O'brian episode. But the doom cloud of DOOM plot idea falls to being stupid. On on station plot is helped by the fact that the Bajorian girl is SO cute that it should be a crime. That and you still get a laugh with the oatmeal prank.

Progress - Sometimes I forget how slowish deep space nine is to modern TV, but that is not a bad thing, it takes time to build up a story, and perhaps it is that I am a planner and doing stuff you don't like, but this story rings home to me. The B-plot is yet another Nog - Jake story, but it funny to see them trade one thing to another trying to one day liquidate it to cash. Though I found it funny that they had two actors who the cardies had removed there ability to talk so they don't have to pay them a ton of money. The guest star was excellent. However there is a major plot hole.

Bajor is struggling, need power, but yet they wipe out a inhabitable moon to produce power, when I am sure the federation could replicate parts for a fusion reactor and produce that power without major issue. It just does not make sense.

If wishes where horses - Rumpelstiltskin? Rumpelstiltskin??!! Though mindless dax was funny at points.

Ok - I return to the unpopular rewatching thread

The Forsaken - Yet another "Lets bring someone from TNG over to DS9 episode." But no Rumpelstiltskin at least! However this one is at least half way decent, in the sense that it is touching to see Mrs. Troi show her softer side. I forget that Odo turning to goo was fancy stuff special effects at this time. In the end, it is not bad, nothing to write home about though.

"Dramatis Personae - This is a odd little episode, Sisko building a clock is one of the most unique things of this episode, as the crew starts to re-enact a age old power struggle. Though I must say, the Klingon ship popping out of the wormhole and blowing up is a fun thing to see. However even on first viewing I knew what was going on and rewatching is even worse. O-well, not the best effort, but it can be a lot worse. Also I like the idea of the Cardies smuggling weapons. somehow fits the mold.

Duet -

Ok, this is about a flawless episode of Star Trek you can get. on this viewing I noticed the little smile that the guest star gives when Kira takes the bait of "War Criminal" in the medlab.

And as a note: I doubt that TNG would ever end with the guest star who turns out to not be a villain is stabbed and dies as the last coda of the episode.

Also, I noticed the cute Bajaorian helper of O'brian shows up for a one line part. don't know why, but I find girls with Bajorian ridges kinda cute, or it might of been the fact that they cast well.

Anyways, this might be the best episode DS9, and Star Trek, produced in it entire run.

In the Hands of the Prophets

This episode is a Winn of a episode.

Ok, bad puns aside, it is a solid episode. however I was bored to tears with the whole schoolhouse issue. Seems very...TNGish where it was almost a visceral hate reaction to anything of faith. While DS9 played it for a much more richer note, even if it correctly shows people manipulating others with faith.

Speaking of faith, why do all the wholesome hot girls are religious nuts, I am looking at you Neela. I found her very cute, but alas, she was just a pawn used by one of the best villains of star trek, Vidick Winn. God Winn is a character you love to hate, brilliantly acted.

Love this lines between quark and odo.

"You were looking for me? Don't tell me; there's a Bajoran convention on the station I didn't know about? Thanks Odo! I need to call in more Dabo girls."

Though I will have to dock points for the stupid "Noooooooooo"...

General question, where they going for the whole "Sydney Opera House" look on purpose, or did that just happen?
