Revolution of the Daleks Trailer

Shouldn't the U.K already be familiar with daleks? I can't believe it's been 14 years since "Doomsday"
But those events didn’t happen.
Or more accurately they only happened in Universe 1.0.

Its a plot point that the Doctor is surprised in Victory of the Daleks that Amy doesn’t know what a dalek is. That was in “universe 1.5” which is the one without Amy’s parents etc. (All of Season 5)

When the doctor reboots the universe into Universe 2.0 in “the Big Bang” who’s to say if the UK people of 2020 know what a dalek is?

even if they didn't know the Daleks, which feels like a really lazy cheat anyway, the general public still should be familiar with alien invasions since the Cybermen just came back resurrecting corpses a few years ago during the 12th doctors run, and nothing's reset people's memories or the universe from that.

plus the government/UNIT/etc would still be familiar with the zygons among other things.

I agree. But wouldn’t that make having new robo-tank protectors seem like an even better idea

I'm curious what people remember of the 4-5-6 arrival in Children of Earth is. Or Miracle Day. Yes? No? Maybe so?

And, yes, I agree that the Cybermen desecrating every cemetery on Earth isn't something that could be easily forgotten.

Nobody ever remembering the past massive invasions, or even seeming to be aware aliens exist, even though there's been dozens of apocalyptic evens has been one of my biggest pet peeves with New Who since it started.
No, I don't think it does. Outside the "pepperpots", the Daleks are naked and more vulnerable. They are more easily destroyed. The "pepperpots" are like personal tanks. They surround the Daleks with a nearly impenetrable armor and give them extremely deadly weapons. So inside the "pepperpots", the Daleks are a lot stronger.
OK, for some reason I was thinking they couldn't function at all outside of pepperpots.

I saw it. Twice. It's half-appealing, half-naff. It's sad that the only scenes of interest involved a TARDIS interior with companions feeling helpless and worried... and the jail scenes with the Doctor looking despondent and talking to herself out of and/or to prevent insanity (and reminds that Jodie is not a bad actress). That's grim stuff and those scenes alone are going to get me viewing because I want to see how they resolve those issues. With luck The Fugitive Doctor (Jo Martin) will return (or Jodie regenerates into Jo, which is one of a few rumors floating around...)

On the flip side, seeing Cap'n Jack return and be all "LOOK AT MEEEEEEEEEEEEEE AND MY EGOOOOOOOOOO!" was sheer pomposity but hopefully the whole story isn't loaded with any more moments like that.

The Thatcher-wannabe witrh her shiny new hockey team-inspired guards was corny.

Jack Robertson's return was laughably bad cringe...

...his opening up what looks like the new metaltron design with Ryan and Yaz looking a bit worried only suggests it's a genetically engineered human, but who knows. The show's done that bit twice already, and if rumors are correct then how will Chibnall up the ante from "Revelation of the Daleks" and "Bad Wolf" with the same big epic notion a third time? (Though I'm not saying it's not possible...)

Daleks flying around frying people on modern day Earth, on the face of it, looks like the laziest rehash ever scripted... "OMGz, Daleks attacking modern day Earth! Again! We're so scared we've not just yellowed our underpants but browned them too! OH NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" The repeating "rule of epic" fizzed out over a decade ago...

But the teaser's primary job is to get interest and it just about manages that with the stuff that feels actually new.

Best of all: The episode could be stronger than the sum of its parts so it's unfair to brand the episode right now. Especially as Chibnall's surprised before by using set-pieces decently (Spyfall > Sound of Drums by a country mile in reusing the Doctor and companions going off the grid, and Chibnall's use of the Master so far beats the snot of RTD's era and there's more intimacy in having the Master be in part responsible for the destruction than Gallifrey than yet-another-war-with-some-Daleks so there's actual hope.)

That and if Tosin is leaving yet Bradley is staying (albeit infrequently), I wonder if they'll go the mile and kill off Ryan - as impetus for Graham to stay behind. (I'd rather he'd end up in the "It Takes You Away" universe where he can be with some corporeal semblance of Grace again but that's too uplifting... and that cornball slush was done with Rose and sent therre "permanently" in "Doomsday" (and dredged out two years later from that "permanent" state because fans were shrieking they wanted Rose the teddy bear to return, not unlike them screaming for Jack to come back now.)

This has probably already been posted but ...
Ryan and Graham will be leaving in the upcoming special, ‘Revolution of the Daleks’.

I wonder if they get killed off or just leave the Tardis?

One faux "epic" after another. Each more hollow and requiring more scrunchy faces and loud muzak to get audiences to emote on cue. In tv production college, do they have four mandatory courses revolving around Pavlov's experiments with dogs?!

Oh, the "chained to Earth because I love it here" schlock was what made "Turn Left" risible for me. Otherwise a great concept, but so much set on modern day Earth rendered it less than the sun of its parts. It also reminded me of that sort of cliche meme involving:

3rd Doctor: "All my stories are set on Earth (and I hate it)"
10th Doctor: "Hold my beer (and I love it, squee!)"

Without the Doc, the first batch of alien fritters would take over and all the other space-faring species would all have boring catfights amongst each other when picking for scraps. "Turn Left" needed to be done with a Doctor incarnation that was rarely on Earth to really hit home its message to full effect. But people still cried on cue, so thank the incidental music...

RTD gets kudos for reviving the show (despite understandably being worried about it not taking off) but retooling the show about going anywhere in space and time to be willfully stuck on modern day Earth-centric because (in dialogue) he liked it there (but in real life the show was stuck on Earth to save on production cost) really did it more a disservice and most of it has dated horrible since. Even worse than some of Classic WHO's cliche attempts at showing future fashion.

I'd have to count, but Chibnall's two seasons have visited more time periods and non-Earth planets than all of RTD's and Moffat's combined and Moffat went to far more alien planets than RTD ever had. And Chibnall's historicals are for the most part his era's best stories...

Good point - I updated my post to hide some supposition just in case, but
there were news articles confirming both were leaving the show, then another article saying Walsh was going to make periodic returns. How those articles tie into "Revolution" and how it deals with that (and assuming the news articles were not telling rumors), I honestly have no clue. If the story actually has them leaving, I'd definitely not be going off the deep end without spoilers beforehand. The news of them leaving still leaves the how (the real spoilery goodness) up for grabs, thankfully.

I don't think that can possibly be true. Ten seasons (plus the specials) compared to two seasons? (oh and those two seasons are shorter than the previous 10 into the bargain) Comparing season on season then maybe Chibnall has done better in terms of time and space compared to some of RTD and Moffat's seasons, but I don't feel he's significantly pushing the envelope.

Would like less present day Earth stories and present day Earth companions though!

Really, it boils down to what the plot demands. In the first Dalek serial (where they ran upon static power like "dodge'm cars" and were thus trapped in their city) removal seemingly meant their death. The Doctor and Ian extract a mutant, swaddle it in a Thal cloak and moments after they escape, a Gill-Man type webbed hand emerges from the fabric and then stops moving. In "Genesis of the Daleks", a mutant embryo somehow manages to escape a gestation tank and nearly throttle the 4th Doctor. In Resurrection of the Daleks", a mutant has left its travel machine and attacks a soldier, apparently both choking the man and inflicting a venomous bite.

Slight difference from the twitter spoilers. The special will be 75 minutes not 70

Chibnall- Five year plan? What's that?

The Fugitive Doctor wasn't part of a long-term plan after all, they came up with it at the last minute

https://bleedingcool.com/tv/doctor-who-the-fugitive-doctor-was-last-minute-creation/

"I think particularly because we had the Master at the start, people thought all our twists were done," showrunner Chris Chibnall exclusively told Radio Times. "And you never do an episode five twist… I don't know where we'll do it again next time!

"And it's all credit to Jo Martin – just an extraordinary performance."

"We had a story, and Vinay and I were talking about a story… and then I just called him up one day and said 'you know this story…what if that's the Doctor?'" Chibnall said. "And he sort of sat and looked at me like 'what?' – so he was the first person to know. And the moment we started talking about it, and we worked really closely together on it in a really great way, it was irresistible."
