Reviving the USS Boundless

sojourner

Admiral
In Memoriam
Hey guys,
So a few months back I had a motherboard crash that ate my raid 5 setup resulting in the loss of a lot of work from the previous year including this project.

I'm finally rebuilding this model, now named the USS Boundless. The rebuild is proceeding with only the png's to work from. none of the original work survived the crash. Along the way I am taking the opportunity to tweak a few things from the previous version. Take a look, tell me what you think.

Pretty cool Excelsior inspired design, with some AbramsTrek in there too (the engineering hull).

Nice work, but boy do I ever need to get myself new monitors. Total page stretch for me.

Great zot!!! That's out standing.

We need to see more as you progress!

Regards,
Chuck

Thanks for the comments guys! Couple new images, reworking the impulse engines and top view of the whole ship for those that aren't aware of the "swallow tail". And yes, your eyes are not deceiving you, the nacelle pylons are different sizes, I have decide which size I like best yet.

I think the thinner pylon fits the nacelle and swallow tails better. But man, I did not expect that engineering section to be so... thin.

Based upon the top view, the sec hull looks to much thin. Maybe, you can make it a bit more "fat".
About the pylons, I suggest you something with the lines of the Ingram Class:

I´m curious... How you built the sec hull in sketchup? I believe it wasn´t an easy job...

From the top view, it does look thin, but other views look fine. I like it. The pylons have yet to be detailed. They'll change a bit as I work on them.

Hehe, as for the secondary hull build, yea, it wasn't easy and would be hard to explain. Here's an exploded view of the starboard half:

This project is still alive. Actually did some work on it this week.

Click the thumbnail for a large pic.
(hmmm, apparently with how photobucket does things now you have to click 2 more times on their zoom functions to get the actual full size image)

Will post some up close images of recent changes tomorrow if anyone is interested.

Looks BIG. I'm with The Librarian, the impulse deck and bridge are quite nice!

^The primary hull is actually smaller than the Ambassador class's primary. Though in length it is larger, overall volume makes it a smaller ship. Which fits the timeline I'm going for. I want this ship to fit in between the Excelsior class and Ambassador class development wise. Solidly in the "lost years".

Another thumb to large image:
