Review that episode!

I typically dislike child episodes. And this one is mostly a pedestrian tale with a predictable outcome. Alexander arrives onboard and is troubled and hard to handle for Worf. Naturally Alexander's persistent irresponsibility lands him in the compulsory emergency from where he has to be rescued after which there's some sort of upbeat understanding between the pair in time for the credit roll. The subplot is the new warp wave that contrives to damage the ship that had left Alex in his peril.

Dorn is the high point of this episode. The correctives he issues Alexander are hilarious and the high handed confidence that the "boy understood" is very well done. Worf is mostly frustrated by Alexander and Dorn acts this very well with some sturdy dialogue for him. I also like Mrs. R who makes a cameo here. But while some fun can be had with it, it doesn't overturn the overall drabness and a crushing predictability that dogs this episode.

Tapestry

Hands down, the best Q episode of them all. Picard is shot, "dies" and in lieu of St Peter finds Q there!!! Long story short, Q is giving him a second chance, Picard being dead because of his artificial heart, if he manages to avoid getting stabbed much earlier in his life and therefore keeps his own heart, Q says, he'll live, if not he'll remain dead. Reluctantly Picard accepts the deal. He manages to avoid the impalement but only at the cost of two of his best friends. And then Q sends him back to his present, which is completely different from what he expected. He's a mediocre officer leading a tame and boring life. Picard don't want that, he'd rather be dead than that. SO Q gives him another chance to put things back to the way they were. Picard does so and he wakes up laughing among his crew, alive and still a captain. Picard realizes that Q did him a favor and that life will now taste better.

Bloodlines

As a Frenchman, Jean-Luc Picard's never been one to use protection, during his many rendezvous with the most beautiful women in the Galaxy. As a result, when he's been made privy to having knocked up one Miranda Vigo, Jean-Luc just shrugs and sends their son Jason Vigo to Bev, who confirms him to be Picard's prodigy. Into every Man's life, however, a little rain must fall ...

It seems that Jason's got a rap sheet, which includes petty theft. As well, Jason is not Picard's only Blast from the Past. A Ferengi named Bok, lost his son - years ago - in a battle against Picard's former vessel, the USS Stargazer ... and, coincidentally, enough ... just-so-happens to be out for revenge, with the aim of killing Jason, himself. As these alarming events unfold, it seems there's more to Jason's story than was earlier revealed. A lot of Human drama in this one.

The Schizoid Man

Data meets his dying "grandfather", Ira Graves who taught Data's dad Soong. Graves ain't the dyin' kinda guy though and has found a way to upload himself into Data, elbowing Data's own personality out of the way. So Data-Graves beams back to the ship and it isn't long before he starts acting up, showing jealously re. his younger ex-assistant., flexing his ego as he gives his own flowery funeral oration, talkin' back to the boss-man and generally making a nuisance of himself.

Some of the early dialogue with Data and Graves is strong. But Spiner almost plays Data-Graves for laughs and hasn't seemed to have bothered to capture the essence of the Graves character that Sheppard played. Despite Data openly clowning around, the crew are also slow on the uptake that something is seriously amiss.

I like some of the dialogue and I'm amused by some of Data-Graves' antics eg. with Picard. But it's a messy episode and a throwback to the dogged eared episodes that should've been left behind in season one.

Elementary, Dear Data

Laforge who should have known better inadvertently creates a Moriarty self-aware and extremely intelligent by telling the computer to create an adversary that could defeat Data. Things get dangerous for a while as Pulaski is kidnapped and Moriarty is the one in control of the situation but he's apparently a reasonable foe and they manage to reason him into agreeing to let himself be put into storage until they find a way to make him real. Suffice it to say that we haven't heard the last of him yet. Entertaining and nicely done. Definitely a must see.

Ship In A Bottle

Another good use of the Moriarty character, and I also loved the holodeck within the holodeck idea. I always enjoyed it when holograms started questioning their existence.

Yesterday's Enterprise

Arguably, the best time travel/time distortion story yet. The enterprise D meets enterprise C because of a time anomaly of sorts. Everything changes and Guinan is the only one to see that there is something wrong with the new reality. She convinces Picard to put things back to the way they were. Riker dies a reversible death. You have to see that!

The Big Goodbye

...in which we find that the incredible holodeck can also be incredibly fragile. Picard and co. get trapped inside, and the engineering staff lets Wesley take point in the repairs.

Heart of Glory

Worf meets a few Klingon friends and he does Klingon stuff with them. Including yelling when someone dies, apparently to get the gates of stovokor open or something like that.

Conspiracy

alien bugs infest starfleet command's top leaders. Remmik gets cooked by Picard and Riker, with a juicy explosion that barely made it past the censors.

Evolution (DR KELSO!!)

Wesley screws things up to his older self (sort of). If you like Wesley, watch this! You get him twice! They're both equally insufferable, it's amazing!

The Enemy

Troi's mother goes full "Auntie Mame" in search of a husband; a waste of a Mic Fleetwood cameo under a pound or two of makeup and appliances.

The Emissary

A nice little episode. Worf's ex, the half Klingon K'Ehleyr, arrives in a torpedo, lol. Apparently there's an old Klingon sleeper ship on the loose who think the war is still on and it's up to Special K and our heroes to sort it all out. Special K is all for obliteratin' it on sight, Picard, appalled, tells both of them to get their finger out and get cracking on some "options". Meanwhile Special K has it out with her ex. .

There's alot of good stuff here. Plakson plays Special K very well. She's witty, irreverent and quick to temper and the way her tempestuousness clashes with the rather conservative and abrupt Worf is well done. Good to see Worf do his thing as the Captain and Colonel Decker from the A-Team makes his cameo as the Klingon commander.

Power Play

Troi, O'Brien and Data, are inhabited by the spirits of criminals who try to free they numerous comrades left as disincarnate forms of life on a penitentiary planet. After taking hostages and trying diverse sorts of manipulation they're eventually defeated by their hosts' willingness to give up their lives. A bit silly yet entertaining.

Peak Performance

This is a fun episode. Riker plays a key role, but this is more of an ensemble piece. Data - famously - finds out that you can avoid making every mistake and still fail, whilst the rest of us (equally famously) finds out about The Picard Manoeuvre, which involves appearing to be in 2 places, at the same time.

The First Duty

Wesley is involved in a piloting accident in the academy, with not Tom Paris and three other cadets (one is killed). Not Tom Paris wants them all to cover up and lie about the accident and then Wes gets yelled at by Picard and he comes foward, costing him a year at the academy and getting Not Paris banned. Good episode.

The Game

Riker get's a game on Risa that looks stupid but apparently brings him a lot of joy. He shares it with everyone he knows on Enterprise and the very additive game spreads throughout the Enterprise like forests fire. Soon everyone is using it except for Wesley and Ashley Judd. Beverly has disabled Data... Anyway, Wesley saves the day! Not a good episode.
