Anyone else here read this yet?
I'd never read anything written by Janet Evanovich before Sunday, but I had heard of her and knew she was a popular author. A few months ago I found out she was going to team up with her daughter Alex and write a graphic novel, so I thought it might be interesting to pick up, since bestselling authors turning their stuff into comics doesn't always work. And it didn't work here either. Thing is, unlike what I've read in reviews of longtime fans of JE I had no problem with the story and only a minor problem with this book being only the first part.
It was the artwork that sucked.
I mean, there are two penciliers (apparently, the artist credited on the cover didn't do the backgrounds) for this thing and there isn't any real detail work done on the characters or backgrounds until a good way into the second chapter. It's supposed to be in Miami, and its supposed to show all this culture, and it's like the main characters are the only ones in the city for a good stretch. I was thinking it probably would have been better in prose. I'm pretty sure the author could describe a scene much better than the artists drew them.
This little bit of morbid curiosity cost me eighteen bucks and, surprisingly, I can't blame the authors for anything except not finding someone who can actually draw to do their graphic novel.
There. Got that out.
