Reveal: New transporter design!

Wow, that is very different, but I like it. I have to admit, this is the first change to really surprise me. I was expecting most of the other changes, the Klingons, uniforms, and bridges have all changed repeatedly over the years, but the transporters have stayed pretty consistently the same.

I realize the real world explanation is simply that they're trying to change things up and give the show its own look. But in-universe, you could always say that Starfleet experimented with different types of transporter technology in the 2240s-early 2250s, but ultimately chose to stick with their more traditional design. ;)

We've already seen an even earlier transporter pad on the NX-01 and it doesn't look like this. This Shenzhou pad might be for large cargo containers, and that's why it looks like it does. Still, not matter what, it simply doesn't look Trek or futuristic.
I do not agree there. The yellow panels bug me, as they are not aligned, but this does look futuristic. They aldo look a lot luke a pad, just not the arrangement we are used to is all.

I can't really tell, but they may be standing on some sort of pads. If you look through the transporter panel to the left (I think that's Saru?) and where Michelle Yeoh is, there may be something there. Could be a reflection, but it may be a pad.

Not crazy about it based on this single shot, but I could easily change my mind when we see it in action. Maybe even just seeing it from a different angle.

Love the look, love the TOS phasers, the belt with the gold sprayed buckle is a bit BSG but I like the armour in general. It's nice to see them step outside the norm a little bit (and it is only a little bit - it's still 'stand in this alcove with a desk in front of you') with the set design.

Feels a bit like an homage to the Gold Key transporter room which I am totally fine with, esp. since they mention that not only is this not their only transporter room, that the Discovery will look different (which I read as more traditional)
Maybe it's a 'heavy transporter' or something more for cargo normally.

Another new photo has emerged from the Star Trek: Discovery set; this one of one of the transporter rooms on the USS...

Doesn't look like any other Starfleet transporter that I've seen. Though it could be in some state of disrepair. Won't know until the show premieres.

That's possible as well. But it really can be anything as to why it looks different than what we're used to. In fact, I never liked the transporter in ENT because it looked too close to the TOS movies and TNG. I was always envisioning what we see here for ENT: something where you see a lot of the function and pieces.

It would be akin to locomotives. A steam locomotive has everything out and exposed; you can see everything and how it works. As technology advanced to electric and diesel locomotives, they were more advanced but you saw less of what made it work - the parts were all covered and hidden away.

Love the look, love the TOS phasers,...

Trekmovie has closeups of the phasers. I gasped. They look awesome!

The fanboy in me squeed when I saw the phasers.

Did you shoot him with one of those sweet phasers? Damn, they look awesome! *ZAP!*

View attachment 2590 Ohhhh the ass on that phaser looks familiar........that dial tho!

OHHH. You mean these hand LASERS which were used between 2250's and early 2260's:

latest

These sure look like phasers that transition between "The Cage" and TOS!

That transition didn't happen until AFTER Where No Man Has Gone Before. As evidenced here:

And it probably wasn't so much of a transition as it was a complete change in technology seeing as how these were Lasers and the series proper weapons were Phasers.
