Reveal: New transporter design!

Agree -- it does look functional and...scientific? Like, in addition to giant speakers, the other thing it reminded me of was the Large Hadron Collider.

Yes! It reminds me of the recent shows that talk about how real-world technology is developing things we see in Trek, and how it's been said how much would be needed to transport a being.

That's what got me too. I mean, it's all fantasy and you have to suspend disbelief, but I also question why their boots aren't left on the floor after transport. Of course we can come up with any in-universe explanation, but a top and bottom construction made some intuitive sense.

Those could be early pattern buffers or Heisenberg compensators, before what we see in TOS.

It looks like those projectors in the middle of the circles are what will be 'beaming them'. Though that would raise the question as to how they beam them up from outside the ship.

Hmmm ... I imagine those circles to be concave dishes and the glowing arms will spin. So this is some kind of scanner ... possibly tech that is normally hidden behind walls. Hopefully, the set retains more familiar plates one above and below the alcove.

Also, this story did confrim the Shenzhou is an older class than Discovery and this is the prime timeline 10 years before TOS.

We've already seen an even earlier transporter pad on the NX-01 and it doesn't look like this. This Shenzhou pad might be for large cargo containers, and that's why it looks like it does. Still, not matter what, it simply doesn't look Trek or futuristic.
