More a matter that the galactic populous just fought a war against droids. Hardly going to be happy to have an army of them. You have to know your audience.Did they invest so much they ran out of money for buzz droids, shielded battle droids, and lasers that shoot 200 times per second?
Silly Empire!

I don't see the two as completely incompatible. The people didn't start out hating the Empire any way so the rhetoric would need to match the needs of the people.Do you honestly believe that over Lucas wanting to pump up the action in the prequels? Seems like people hate the Empire anyway, and the idea that they'd stop using that technology is insane.

One is in universe one is out of universe. I try not to conflate the twoThere's always some kind of reason people can think up to explain these inconsistencies. I just find it odd when people seem to cite them instead of the vastly more obvious 'because George wanted more action and enemies that could be 'killed' without living in the first place' thing.
I generally think it's OK to have an inconsistency if the new thing is also entertaining. Cool-looking ships, environments, effects and action-just ignore/accept and enjoy the inconsistency.
Loved the political stuff- was reminded a bit of Asimov’s Foundation as we saw how the Republic slid into Empire. The films felt much larger in scope than the original trilogy.
Out of the PT, AOTC is the one that I find most enjoyable to sit back and watch with a bowl of popcorn and a beer.Voted other- I don’t hate them. I actually really like AOTC (at least, the B plot following Kenobi’s bounty hunter mystery). A lot of aspects are bad- how Anakin is handled, the atrocious dialogue, the child-focused first film, much questionable directing, etc. Loved the political stuff- was reminded a bit of Asimov’s Foundation as we saw how the Republic slid into Empire. A one billion dollar box office is a bomb?!? Color me confused.I actually find TPM most enjoyable. I think Lucas put a lot more effort into the script than he did with the other two and was a little surprised when it bombed.

TPM probably had the most stiffness in the acting and AotC the most effects-padding (though they both also had positives), RotS nothing particularly bad and a lot really good.
No, I don't. "Bomb" has a more or less specific meaning. A one billion dollar box office isn't close to any reading of the term.Come on, you know what I mean.
Try again. Did you mean to say that Lucas was surprised when TPM wasn't as well received as he'd hoped it would be? If that's what you were trying to say, then say that. Say what you mean. TPM didn't bomb, and that's a fact.
Same here. Really enjoy Obi-Wan's parts as well as Christopher Lee.Out of the PT, AOTC is the one that I find most enjoyable to sit back and watch with a bowl of popcorn and a beer.
Kor
To each their own. I feel no desire to revisit the PT, or even Rogue One. I can't say the same about TFA or TLJ.Still better than the new ones at least. Especially TLJ. That movie committed the greatest crime of being boring.
