You know, a great point this review brings up which I never thought about is that we don't get the "lower deck" crewmembers opinion about this. Did they agree with deciding to strand themselves in time or was this a decision of the senior officers? They would have been more that justified to mutiny against Sisko if they weren't consulted on this.

I never liked the guilt put on O'Brien for wanting to go home.

I cant remember if he specifically expressed his view as if they left these people would have never existed, but its true, so I had no probelm with him wanting to get home to see his daughter again.

So they have the computers from the Defiant, 24th century tools, and 300 years to build their community, and they don't have a hospital with a Kira-fixing machine on Gaia? Not to mention forewarning!!! They knew she was coming and precisely what would be wrong with her.

The Gaians could have saved Kira and removed the entire ethical problem of Kira dying from quantum story-sickness or whatever.

Or even offered to trade her survival in exchange for the rest of the crew biting the temporal bullet, if they wanted to be dicks about it.

Also there is the other planet with the wacky energy field and the unexpected timey-wimey side-effects from The Sound of Her Voice... What is travelling around the Galaxy leaving all of these time hax0r planetary energy fields all over the place...

You bring up a lot of great points.

From my limited understanding of Hawking, the same particles can’t exist in two places at the same time in the same universe. If there can be two Odos and two Daxes on the planet, I’m not sure why we don’t get a matter-antimatter situation like in “The Alternative Factor,” in which Odo linking with himself would destroy everything.

What Worf also learns about in 'Parallels' is the existence of the 'quantam resonance frequency' or whatever it's called, where all molecules in a universe vibrate at the same rate. The Defiant's crew and the colony existed in different timelines, with different quantam resonance frequencies, so Hawking's theories about the impossibility of the same exact two things existing in time and space at the same time hold up. They are not the same.

Which makes one wonder why Worf never meets himself in 'Parallels' - he just replaces all the alternate Worfs.
