A few tips...

1. Offer Money

Creating a decent painting or 3D starship from scratch takes many, many hours of work. Many. A hobbyist might take several weeks working in the evenings to get one made, so offering cash is a good way to add incentive. Offering to credit an artist is meaningless, it's what you have to do anyway when using artwork you didn't create.

2. What exactly do you want

Do you want a 3D model to use yourself? Do you want a model made and then many pictures made of specific scenes? Do you just want paintings or drawings of a design? Animations? A logo? What are you expecting out of this, as all this takes more time.

3. What does it look like

You want artwork, not wiring diagrams, so posting fan fiction and tech specs like speed ratings, shield types and other invisible stuff mean nothing. They only matter if we see them hanging off the finished product. A description or simple sketch would go miles, and an idea of the era would help. Listing 3 completely different ships does nothing except to establish the timeframe.

4. Go trawling

Chances are that no one will want to spend ages working for free on something they dont care about and didn't need to make. However, there are plenty of creative people out there making stuff right now which might fit the bill for your ship when its done. If your able to find someone on an art or modeling forum (here, scifi-art.com, Deviant Art, Flickr, etc) who is working on a ship that fits, you could do worse than go schmooze that guy in the hopes that he'll do a picture with your ships name on it, and maybe a few pictures too. If he's already building it, then it's no biggy to do that and it kind of gives him a purpose for it too.

Good luck.

Quick note on point #1 above: the TrekBBS does not permit solicitation nor selling, so offering or looking for a paid commission here would warrant a warning and thread closure.

Otherwise, all very sound advice. :bolian:
